Is there a true need to invest in a bypass for US 301? Are there significant backups in this rural area of Florida? Are they trying to take out towns like Waldo and Starke once and for all?

if you're trying to avoid 30mph speed limits and speed traps, yes

Avoiding driving 30mph through small towns, so you won't mow over their pedestrians sounds more like a personal problem than an official reason to blow hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars on new highways in rural Florida. I'm starting to find the cries of government being broke hilarious and hypocritical. Either we have money in this State or we don't.  If we are broke, then we really need to be questioning permanently subsidizing projects like this.

I just need a little clarification:

There are TWO studies: A Jacksonville to Gainesville highway and a Jacksonville to Tampa highway -- which would parallel 301 / I-75?

Just trying to make good on campaign promises.

the route was never determined when the future corridor studies were shelved in 2007....best guess is it would include upgrades to 301 w/ a connection to I-75 just north of Ocala....and then extra lanes (tolled for sure) on I-75...also bypasses on 301 for some towns...for example, a bypass of Starke has been under study for several years.
