I have always wonder, what are they doing on that land under the Dames Point Bridge... I've always seen pickup trucks and dumpster trucks on the land all the time but what do they do there??? any help???

If you are referring to the island underneath the bridge... that is from the dredging of the channel.

It's the dry bulk cargo area for JAXPORT's  Dames Point Terminal.

QuoteBulk cargo is commodity cargo that is transported unpackaged in large quantities. This cargo is usually dropped or poured, with a spout or shovel bucket, as a liquid or as a mass of relatively small solids (e.g. grain, coal), into a bulk carrier ship's hold, railroad car, or tanker truck/trailer/semi-trailer body. Smaller quantities (still considered "bulk") can be boxed (or drummed) and palletised. Bulk cargo is classified as liquid or dry.

The busiest bulk cargo port in the world is the New Orleans-area based Port of South Louisiana.

QuoteDry bulk cargo ("dry" trades)

Coal
Grain (wheat, maize, rice, barley, oats, rye, sorghum, soybeans, etc.)
Iron (ferrous & non-ferrous ores, ferroalloys, pig iron, scrap metal, pelletized taconite), etc.)
Bauxite
Wood chips
Cement
Chemicals (fertilizer, plastic granules & pellets, resin powder, synthetic fiber, etc.)
Dry edibles (for animals or humans: alfalfa pellets, citrus pellets, livestock feed, flour, peanuts, raw or refined sugar, seeds, starches, etc.)
Bulk minerals (sand & gravel, copper, limestone, salt, etc.)

if that was to happen, where could they possibly apply a bridge to the island without disturbing traffic along heckscher Dr. and residential areas in ft. Caroline? keep in mind a bridge high enough to clear cargo ships!!!

Here's your answer.  The river silts so they dredge regularly and that island is where they place the dredged material.

EASY, you don't come at it from the north, but from 9-A and the lower part of the bridge.

Oooh, can I have the contract to sell the paper and printer toner to the Port or JTA or DOT or whoever will have to do the environmental studies on that?

That aside, not a bad use for that island!
