Josh- you are right about Gibbs-The first time I went there I realized it was a Larry's Giant Subs Menu with the
names changed-the only problem was it didn't operate the same-sandwich time was 15 minutes and quality so-so.

Um how many different kind of sandwich combinations are there for cold cuts? Pretty much every'submarine sandwich place has the exact same menu.

You are correct, but there are some shops that rock while most others barely get by!

I dunno... Subway is garbage but they're going strong with that fat ass Jared at the helm.

Welcome to MetroJacksonville, Rmacus! Make yourself home and it is really addicting to participate in these halls of threads among those fine folks! Look out for the amazing Stephen and Uncle Ockie among other fantastic posters.

Back to the topic:

Subway- Meh.
Firehouse Subs - After their changes, it is pretty good.
Larry Giant- Still good, but not the best.
Jimmy Johns- Good for its own style.
Mom & Pop Deli Store like one in 5 Points - DELICIOUS.

It makes me feel good to put money into local small business. It is even more bonus when their food are even so soul-filling good!

Maybe I am just hungry at the moment. :)

I guess between goalpost and whiteway, both of which have been around forever and thus aren't saddled with startup-phase overhead, they also had some strong competition within the surrounding area. Not to mention there is an actual Larry's a couple blocks east of their location. And now that somebody mentioned it, yeah, it was basically the whole Larry's menu with the names changed. I liked Gibbs better though, because I like Boar's Head products better than whatever Larry's uses.

Then you should hit up the Publix deli.

And while I'm on grocery store sandwiches - Hung Thinh (yeah, that just happened) on Normandy has a killer Banh Mi - if you're into that sort of thing.

Chris- fyi i am sorta of a subologist(joke) but I was in the meat industry and you would be interested to know Boars Head is mostly a marketing company and make very few of it's own products- many are made in plants that produce other brands. Larry's actually uses some of the finest products available- one for instance is the roast beef- Boars head uses a top round 10% injected beef, while Larry's uses U.D.A. Choice Top Round Angus-NON INJECTED- which is vastly superior! I know this because I sold it!-Larry's also uses organic Chicken Breast and a excellent 2 piece all muscle turkey- not 3 or 5 pieces glued together- sorry I don't want to over kill, but I do know about this stuff.

I always wondered the difference between the Publix and Boars Head meat and if it was worth the extra dollar.

The only thing about sub meat I knew for sure is that Subway is gar-bage.

This is why I like Larry's Giant Subs over Gibbs or Firehouse anytime in the quality of taste. I always get the roast beef at Larry's.

Based on that information you provided, Rmacus, it sounds like the owners of Gibbs were being hypocrites because they were promoting MonaVie which was promoting health benefits scandalously while the very ingredients for their subs are not healthy and being processed unethically.

Gibbs Orange Park WAS a Larrys, they just didnt want to pay the franchise fees anymore and were then able to get cheaper meat through a different vendor.

Larrys=awesome.  That's Field math.  Like Rmacus said, they use VERY high quality meats.  Eaten at Larrys 3 times this week actually.

The fieldafm hierarchy of sandwich shops in riverside/avondale:
1-Pinegrove
2-Whiteways
3-Larrys (only b/c they don't have tabouli or shrimp and grits)
4-Goal Post
5-Ginas
6-Everyone else

WHOA!!! Where on Normandy can I get some bahn mi???!!!!????

Intersection of Lane & Normanday.  Go to the counter in the back left part of the store, place your order, look around for a bit (don't go by the meat case if you're at all squeamish) and it'll be ready & delicious in a few minutes.  If you haven't been inside the store, I take it you haven't, then it is definitely a must see.

Awesome.  Thank you!!  I go to all of the hispanic markets on the Southside(Beach Blvd) quite often but haven't found any Vietnamese markets (besides restaurants like Bowl of Pho/PK Noodles/etc).  This is GREAT news, especially being close to home!
