Does anyone know of a local tea party site with a discussion board?  I'm interested to see what their views are on the race so far.

just reported....recount will cost $100,000...but the person losing can choose not to have the recount done...we're about to find out how serious Hogan is about cutting spending!

Not the least bit serious, when it comes to feathering his own nest, naturally. That's the teabag mantra.

Hmmm, I guess downtown's health is important to suburban Jacksonville after all.  Just wondering.  Has Jacksonville ever elected an African-American mayor?

Hell Naw!

Not that I am aware of.. and reluctantly .. alas............

Im surprised Lake didn't already know that. I have nieces and a nephew in Jax. I think its dope they may get to see a black mayor. I have to say man I did not think Brown had a chance. I thought Jax was too backwood too outdated too conservative to make this sort of choice. I was mistaken...maybe I should have more faith next time. And I do not think we should bash the Hogan supporters (STEPHAN DARE) Brown is winning, and if he wins will be everyones mayor regardless of who you all voted for.

Assuming the final count favors Alvin, this will be the first time I've met and spoken to a mayor before he was elected. I hope he remains as approachable and individually engaging after getting a new office with the big lock on the door and linebackers and spokespersons to run interference.

If Alvin win this has to become a national story. the end of the Tea Party? if they cant deliver in Duval Connty..where can they deliver?
Wishful. Thinking.

Brown ran as a "conservative" D. He ran on a "no tax increase," "cut the waste" platform. At the end of the day, with the positions they took, he and Hogan probably agreed on 95% of the details (admittedly unscientific). Basically, "same guy" resulted in people looking at that last 5% - and the results demonstrate that as it's basically a complete, 100% down the middle split. Also, let's not fool ourselves - if this election took place in November, Brown would have lost by double-digits. Moving the election was a HUGE help there.

So let's not project our little big town's result nationally. WAY too many variables to extrapolate that way.

It is totally bogus to say that a November election would have been different. Typically off-year elections show a drop off in Democratic voting.

This is indeed an example that the Tea Party is fading in it's influence.  Let's see how the narrative develops.

The title of this thread needs to be renamed to something more Google friendly and eye catching. Media outlets should view this forum as it documents feelings, emotions and reactions as they happened. You guys did well Jacksonville. Pass my bedtime........later

I'm not so sure that it's the fact that their influence is waning. I really feel that it's gotten a lot of normally apathetic progressives enraged to the point of action. Either way, it's a good thing. I want an energized electorate.

:)  enough wine for the evening.  it has been an interesting turn of events . Lets hope and pray that when the recount is done, we have Mayor Brown :)

Another reason this is not such a defeat for the Tea Party: they did pretty well in council races, knocking off Jack Webb in Mandarin.
