The night of the day John Lennon was murdered there was a spontaneous gathering of several hundred people holding candles and singing his songs at the fountain.  We were there.  It was incredibly moving.

It is a special place and just fantastic that it is receiving an long overdue facelift and restoration.

Since my generation is much younger than yours, I perceived the Friendship Fountain as the place for peace for Jacksonville, connecting the past to the future.

And for the visual cue, thanks to the lovely local designer, Karen Kurycki, from her office in Riverplace Tower, she captured this photo of the Foundation going full blast.

That is a great view! Im in the Prudential Building and I just looked out the window myself to see what was going on. When did she take that? I looking to see if there was any grass yet, and there isnt. I assume that is the very last thing they will do.

Can't say for sure but on the last page Bob said they were estimating 100ft this morning.

If you look at the shipping container and the truck below the fountain you can tell it's pretty darn high.

Actually the Landscapers are supposed to be working tomorrow on irrigation (I believe) preparing to get the Park ready for the green stuff, which I am just as impatient to see as you are :)

without the irrigation in place, that green stuff would be brown in two days right now!

I  am surprised the city didn't cut corners by hoping the wind blown spray would take care of the grass.

Good catch.  It looks like you're right.  I just need to get down there and see it for myself!

I got a call from Larry Summerville this morning asking if I wanted to run down real quick and they would power up the Fountain to Full blast...

Here you go:

That is Eric Beebe in the picture who worked on the last Refurb of the Fountain as well and is probably right around 6 foot tall for a comparison.  This was taken from the Roof of the Pump house.

More pictures here:

They had to quickly bring it down to 2/3 - 1/2 power due to the water spray which soaked the entire west side of the park from the winds.  If you look at the pictures in the album you can see how the water is being pushed to the right in most pictures and the Fountain going from Full to 1/2.

Larry also said they are hoping to get the trees set this week and then the green stuff can start being laid :)
