I think this presentation is making its way around Jax this week!

Bativac

I printed this out a few days ago and had it in my cubicle. Management asked me to take it down....

Captain Zissou

Someone just sent that around our office.  I've heard it before, but not so graphically put.

Dog Walker

Really good graphic design!  Somebody deserves a back pat.
When all else fails hug the dog.

Another advantage to riding public transit... you can stand.

thanks for the info.  I just peeled off a couple sets of jumping jacks and toe touches at my desk and then did a few windsprints to the plotter in the back of the office.  Aside from mentally feeling like a complete idiot, I physically feel much better now.

I've seen several other things attributed as mal-effects of desk-work. Back pain, reduced flexibility, lack of endurance (core strength).  Basically bending at your waist stretches your back and disengages your abs. Doing this for a prolonged period gives you an overstretched back and underworked abs, hence a flabby tummy and a sore back. Bending at the knees does the same thing to the quads and hammies, respectively. So while your ancestors might have been fine running around all day, you get sore if you are standing in line for two hours .

An additional argument I've seen against prolonged sitting is on an evolutionary timescale and a bit more disturbing. Basically, as we continue sitting in cars and at desks (and experience the strains and pains associated with doing so), our bodies will begin to mold to this new "homo deskicus." Obviously thats hard to imagine and there's no way to actually notice evolution occurring, but its a bit depressing to think we might evolve to be more comfortable at a computer but less capable of surviving in the wild.

Though I am happy to see my slouching 135 degree angle at work is being encouraged.

Well... at least now we know!  (slaps forehead)  I thought it was McDonalds and Walmart... :)
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

The dude at the desk needs to be obese, however
