There is one vacant strip mall on Atlantic Boulevard that particularly annoys me.  On the eastern bank of Silversmith Creek, you will spot a strip mall that has been vacant for a couple of years.  I remember when it went up and thought that it did not have much of a chance of being occupied.  My initial concerns were confirmed as it stood empty for months and even suffered some structural damage from a vehicle hitting it.  It took forever and a day for that to be fixed.  Today, it is still a blight on what was a pretty parcel of land overlooking Silversmith Creek.  A dirty shame that these eyesores are still going up like mushrooms all over the area.  And yet we may end up with a mayor who does not mind this kind of development at all.  Sure, there are jobs to be created in the short term, but the damage is lasting.

I think Mr. Hull is headed for great things in the future.

Gravity

If you are going to take a 'Progressive' Stance, you have to acknowledge that there is a track record of Pork, Waste, Fraud and Abuse ( not that the other side is not guilty of the same thing) but it is honestly easier to justify status quo projects that are dragging-arse and bleeding money than to drum up support for what will be viewed as a longshot or risky proposal to solve long term problems.

I think to move forward, Progressive or Liberals should see the potential that will soon become of all the cutting the 'Conservatives' are proposing. Once the status quo collapses under the dead weight that has accumulated over the years of wasteful spending, the environment will be ripe to make these new ideas reality, as the problems will be much more evident and the status quo that was hampering any real solutions will no longer stand in the way.

If anything, i think, smart people on both sides are working to bring about more efficient solutions. however I think the disagreement is how to get there. I personally think, in regards to transportation and education especially, you cannot get to anywhere we want to be by keeping the current infrastructure in place. It needs to be completely torn down and reborn out of ashes.

Just a different spin, deal with it as you will.

I am curious about something - how did the democratic party get the label "liberal"?

Similarly, how did the republican party become known as "conservative"?

And how much does each really act in concert with the label?

thesterlingpoole.

all i know is did the right and smart thing by writing a personal check to Shelton for $500 allowing him to run on the ballot. he has won in the opinion of many.

Its a question of opinion, honestly, the truth is in between literally.
Both parties are essentially centralists, with the Democrats leaning left and the Republicans leaning right. The Liberal party is left and the Conservative party is right. Exceptions are in both parties i.e. Mayor Bloomberg is republican Sen Lieberman is democrat.

I don't know about you but I want a city councilperson that follows through with what they say they are going to do.  Mr Hull, you may have some good ideas on paper but by not showing up as you said you would, you showed my group of students that you are just like any other politician...all talk, no action.
