Wayne Weaver announces he is endorsing Mike Hogan for Mayor

After some excitement in the Brown camp about Mrs. Delores Weavers endorsement of him in the race for mayor we see that in this particular instance Wayne Weaver no longer agrees with his wife.  Jags owner Wayne Weaver has given his endorsement for mayor to Mike Hogan and also put his money where his mouth is.  In his comments Wayne said he is confident of Hogan's interest in downtown as well as the future of the Jaguars franchise and other issues.  He is also confident in the people Hogan will have with him in office.

Wayne Weaver is thinking with a business head in tandem with his politcal views.  This is what the difference is between various groups in politics, the thing Shelton was talking about is his essay yesterday.  One group tends to lead with it's emotions and hearts, another goes with plain facts and numbers.  A marriage of both ways of thinking is what most people say they want in a candidate and Moran did her best to fill that bill.  She came in third and did not make the runoff.  A Republican and a Democrat did.

Weavers endorsement should also go to prove that he believes that Hogan is supportive of our football team, downtown and a plan to rebuild Jacksonville's faulty and weak financial position.

Considering the fact that Hogan voted against bringing a football team to the city? Talk about hypocrisy.

and Del Rio is a top flight NFL coach too right? This makes me qestion Mr Weavers bussiness mindset when viewed with Mr Hogans lack of expertise as well as not vocalizing just what his vision is for downtown!

Where did he say this......???

I'm not seeing it anywhere.

Josh, This choice has nothing to do with hypocrisy, it has to do with recognizing the current and ongoing value of an NFL team for Jacksonville.  The Jags are good for Jacksonville and inspite of a vote over a decade ago, Mike Hogan gets that and supports the team.  You will find over time that everyone changes their minds about alot of beliefs and views.  Everyone has to adjust to a changing political landscape when they step into any race for office.  If you can't bend and flow with shifting views and concerns, you won't survive the world of politics.

@CZ, from todays article.

QuoteWayne Weaver, a Republican, told The Times-Union this morning that he met with Hogan at Hogan’s request for more than an hour last week. He said they talked about everything from improving Downtown to supporting education.

Weaver said he appreciated Hogan's Republican values. He said he came away satisfied Hogan would hire a good staff and be good leader and ambassador for the city.

I believe you Stephen and don't doubt the emotions expressed the evening of Moran's loss.  But the players who survive in business and politics know how to play the hand they are dealt.

You do have a valid point, and I want to regret my statement.

Another thing I want to point out... could this be a red herring in this 2011 Mayoral Election. For example, could Wayne's endorsement with Hogan would just drive people mad to the point that they could vote for Brown, boosting the turnout, while Delores would soothe the current supporters and maintain their calm?

Only time will tell!

I guess the statement can be interpreted differently by one depending upon how they recieve the information.  Weaver said he is "satisfied".  Satisfied means that his questions have been answered in a way that give him the needed understanding and faith in the candidate he now supports.  We can parse words all day, but the bottom line here is that Mrs. Weaver supports Brown and Mr. Weaver supports Hogan. Mr. Weavers endorsement came with financial backing of himself and several associates.  We will all know soon enough what real impact their endorsements will have.

Wow, is there a clone of Mr. Weaver?

You said a mouthful there! Shifting views indeed.

Typo Josh.  LOL  I will accept your interpretation Stephen.  There is no point in picking apart who said what.  The link to the TU article is here and everyone is more than free to interpret the information in it to their own satisfaction.   :)

I expect that having heard those passionate words, it seemed to everyone that Wayne Weaver was soundly behind Audrey.  Clearly he was, but Audrey Moran is not longer in the race.  The choice is now between Hogan and Brown.  Each of the Weavers has chosen someone different to support in the final leg of the race for mayor.

in this town, that almost always means supporting Republicans...does that notion make you happy Diane?

It used to make me unhappy tofu until I realized what the ongoing dynamics of this city are.  Shelton got it right in his essay yesterday.
