great artcle/pictorial Dan....I went to Milwaukee about 10 years ago and was thoroughly surprised and impressed....their downtown was quite nice and they have some great neighborhoods along the lake near the UW-Milwaukee campus.

btw, for those who think Jax. can't be a player in the convention industry and doesn't need a new convention center...take a look at Milwaukee....with Minneapolis and Chicago nearby the city still does ok...and their convention center, while relatively small, is a boon for downtown hotels, restaurants, and entertainment.

Notice how the Milwaukee Intermodal Station sits on one block as opposed to JTA's plan for a 7 block transportation ranch.

Somehow an article about Milwaukee isn't complete without a reference to 'Laverne and Shirley' and 'Happy Days'.

The Milwaukee Art Museum is featured in this amazing film, Third and Seventh by Alex Row.

Remember, this film was made in 3D/CGI and all done by this one and only guy in his spare time in 7 months time frame. This surely will make Pixar, Industrial Light & Magic, and other animation studios weep.

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

My thought after looking at the photos of this tour of Milwaukee is pretty much the same thought I get after looking at all that this site has done. Other cities just do it better. It's frustrating to visit other cities and realize how clueless the powers that be in this town really are.

I'm jealous of their Public Market...

My relationship with Jacksonville is LOVE/HATE. The more cities I visit that rubs in my face of how epic they are, the more I hate Jacksonville.

Help me and Jacksonville reverse that trend!

I agree, I'm from NJ so, I grew up around NYC and Philly, JAX just needs to be more like my home. I'll play the selfish card by saying, All I want from Jacksonville is for the rednecks to step aside and let well rounded cultured people take over, for no other reason than that I'm homesick.

One of the most beautiful articles and pictures I have seen on this site. Beautiful work Dan.

I am insanely jealous of their multitudes of historic buildings.  Absolutely stunning city!

Never been there, but everytime I think of Milwaukee, I think of a bunch of drunk folk singing together in a piano bar. Is that a fair assessment of MIL?

No.  Laverne and Shirley or Arthur Fonzarelli in a 30 minute misadventure would be more fair...

Nice, handsome looking large city; also looks like its downtown is dense, stockpiled with business, and bustling! Wouldn't want to live there...too cold!
