Actually, I'm not a right wing republican and if you read my comments to start this thread, then you would realize that I don't hate public schools.  I do hate what SOME of the politicians, union leaders, and teachers have done to the system.

And I know what the "republicans" did to take funding away from the schools.  My wife teaches at a school on the Northside and can't even get paper or paper towels.  So I do know.

I do not doubt that people can get a good education from public schools.  However, it's the same everywhere: high tax revenue area, good schools; low tax revenue area, schools that struggle.

Is this because parents in high tax revenue areas have an affordable (to them) option of private schools and poor parents have no such option?

I watched it, it showed suburban kids in super nice schools with all the extras failing also.

The DCPS budget is larger than the City of Jacksonville, yet we have students who cannot even pass basic reading and math tests. Why should we throw more money to DCPS when the administration should be removed and we should start over?
And, that $115 will save Jacksonville from financial ruin. - Mayor John Peyton

This is a great point.  I think that we have the answer: charter schools.  Many charter schools have shown that they offer a better education and do it at a lower cost than public schools.
