I notice a week or so ago signs on the former Bungalow on Park building for a new restaurant. Does anyone have any information on this place?

Oh I truly hope its the lady Chef who use to have the Caribbean place in 5 points. She went to the dismal World Golf Village when that popped up. I missed her curry fish!
please come back to Riverside!

They have their grand opening TODAY, February 2nd.   We just drove by and it looked open.  I briefly met the owner who was so gracious and warm.   Can't wait to try this place out.

I'll have to try this place out, I love caribbean food.

Of course it's going to be a challenge to avoid shivering at the thought of eating there when it was The Bungle on Park. To this day, I think that was the single worst restaurant I've visited in my life. The staff was rude and the service sucked donkey balls, but hey at least the food was only terrible! Just horrid.

My wife and I were walking by the other day and noticed they were opening today.  Thanks for the reminder.  I am excited about this place and hope they can make it a big success.   Now we just need a good Indian restaurant and I will never have to leave my bubble!

I hear the ox tails are divine. Im about to post a crappy picture of the menu, I was unable to scan it at the moment. They have odd hours but great prices and BREAKFAST!!

Call me lazy, but I'd also like a Thai place closer to 5 points.  Now that I don't have to use my car to eat, anything short of the beach seems like a waste of a drive.  Or just get Ruan Thai to deliver to my apt.

Just went to this place for lunch. You can tell they're in their first couple days as its not exactly a well-oiled machine just yet (a problem with one of their ovens and some supply issues cut their menu in half). The waitress assured us they would be serving a full menu by next week. That said, my food was very good (grilled salmon) and everyone I was with enjoyed theirs. I can't say this with any authority, but it seems to be fairly authentic, with some atypical fair: oxtail, jerk chicken and goat, grilled and fried fish, ackee and saltfish, friend plaintains, "Festival,"  and some very interesting drink options (none alcoholic). Pretty reasonable prices as well.
Actually, here's a pic of the menu on Jax Confidential: http://www.jacksonvilleconfidential.com/2011/02/caribbean-house-now-open.html

I'd definitely recommend you check it out. I look forward to trying some of the more unique dishes.

The curry goat was very good as was the coconut rice.  My wife had the curry chicken and the festival.  Yes, the menu was somewhat limited (no jerk chicken or fungy) but hopefully once they get settled in, there will be more available.  One day I will try the oxtail, but I've always been concerned about the rest of the ox.  Is it utilized as well or is this like sharktail soup? :)

Julian

if i recall correctly oxtail is just cow tail, at one time it might have been in reference to an ox (castrated male) but I'm fairly certain that what we have at the grocery listed as oxtail is just cow tail. So yes, the rest is utilized.
