Exposing Hogans Creek

Are you going to focus on the Creek from Noone's landing to the river, or continue through confederate and Klutho parks?  We've been involved in some cleanups there in the past.  Either way, we'd be up for helping with future cleanups.

I think right now b/c the Hogan Creek Greenbelt from the Shipyards basin through Noones Landing has been (criminally) neglected for so long, that should be the priority.  This is the navigable section of the creek and it is in so much worse shape than the area from the first Klutho ballastrade until Boulevard.  Ock and I actually found what we think was once a majestic lake adjacent to Klutho Park yesterday, incidentally.

Klutho and Confederate Park is SO important to the Greenbelt, the Cathedral District, Dowtown, the Sports District, Springfield and the Riverwalk.  It has to all tie together.

That said, if you want to do a Springfield park system cleanup on a Sunday or Saturday afternoon, I'll be there with bells on.

The annual Greenscape flowering tree sale is coming up at the end of the month.  I'd also be willing to donate some trees/flowering shrubs for the efforts and plant them anywhere along the Hogans Creek Greenbelt that would be beneficial as well.

I'm leaving to go out of town for a week.

How about the 12th or the 19th?

I'll bring a truck this time to help with the efforts.  Tripp's truck was a HUGE help.

Lets start breaking this into sections along the creek basin and I bet with 3 or 4 of these morning meetups we'll have the Hogan Creek Greenbelt looking its best since Klutho was alive.  By that time, a new leadership apparatus will be installed and they'll start to hear us loud and clear.  I like Ock's idea in that respect.

I am available on the 12th.

Here's some photos of the cleanup Saturday Morning, I would have put Noone in the top photo, but really Kelly was much more pleasant on the eyes. Don't worry buddy, you won't see me in any of the shots either, I mean digital camera's only allow for so many pixels. I didn't bring my boat either... the Titanic sank some time ago. Giving credit where it is due, we DID encounter a young (homeless?) man who was cutting through the woods and asked us what we were doing, when we told him he rolled up his sleeves and joined us... So our thanks to Henry too. ;D

Nice pics Ock.
I'm in for the 12th or 19th. Don't know if I'll be able to commit to both. Let me just throw this out there.

The 12th at 11am Low Tide. Just work.

The 19th at 10:45am High Tide. Work and Fun.

I believe his name was Henry.  ;D

Captain Zissou

I'm pretty sure I can do either the 12th or the 19th.  If we pick just one day, let me know and I think I can find a few other volunteers!

Lets do it up on the 12th then.  As Noone said, this will be just cleanup day only as the tide schedule isn't the greatest that Saturday.

Who's down?

I'll scout out a good section, bring my truck this time, bring some better work gloves(my latex gloves broke fishing that boombox out of the creekbed... and we all know nothing good happens when your rubber breaks) and we can make it happen.

Bring your Valentine out and make a cheap date of it  :)

Captain Zissou

The 12th it is.  I'll bring some proper boots and heavier gloves this time.  I'll see what I can do about volunteers, I should be able to find 5 or 6.  Lunch afterward??

I honestly had a blast last Saturday, so I'm even more excited about the next one.

We should get the city to assist with a dumpster, and get TV and TU involved. Be nice if someone has a Jon boat.

I'm in for the 12th. Start about 9. HUGE city council and mayoral campaign issue.

Yesterday after the Rules meeting I went up to the 4th floor and had an impromptu meeting with councilman Joost. He is warming and starting to express the benefits of not just Hogans but our river overall. It was a short positive meeting but I got a gut feeling that we'll be paddling Hogans Creek in the future. I think he's just excited about doing it. The issue will continue to grow.

Captain Zissou I can't wait either and what a team effort with the numbers we had and just imagine doubling it the next time. Maybe we can just hug the city fence line and see how far we can go. Its happening.

CG7

I'll be there at 9. With at least my son, and hopefully a few more.

Miss Fixit, Glad to have you on board. I emailed councilman Gaffney about this and his office has put me in touch with the cities Clean it up Green it up. and was wondering if the SOS would want to be the sponsor group. I've got a call in to Mrs. Harrell and this cleanup will focus on Hogans Creek from Beaver and Washington to the river near Duval st. This would also qualify as community service hours for students.

I'd be more than happy to help SOS with a future cleanup through Confederate and Klutho parks.   I'm in Dist. 4 and just wanted to throw that out there.

CG7, Looking forward to seeing you again and meeting your son too. That was a fun day. We'll do the TU one of these days.

NM, we'll get out there and paddle our butts off on Fishweir Creek. Looking forward to some real backwater tours on that Waterway.
