Tornado pic is a hoax.

But thanks for the pics...I guess.  You should have asked where in Florida instead of where in the South?  I think you'd be surprised how many people have been around the state pretty extensively.  These are kind of like "the only hills in FL" and "the only small oil field in FL" and "the only slot canyon in FL" and "the only steel mill in FL" and "the only dam in FL" etc.  Also, Big Shoals was at major, record flood stages in that pic.  It normally looks like a "flowing river with a few rocks" LoL.  I've been on the Santa Fe closer to where it empties into the Suwanee.

Y'ALL ARE GOOD, BUT I THINK LOOKING THEM UP IS CHEATING!

Hey now!  Some of us didn't have to look it up ;D

That picture of the Santa Fe River looks to have some significant elevation on the banks, which the Santa Fe definitely does not have.

Those prickly apples look rather phallic. Just Saying

It is rumored that there are caves all around Gainesville, and it's a closely guarded secret within the rock climbing community.  I was never fortunate enough to find someone who 'knew', but it wasn't for lack of trying.  I asked half the geology department about them and nobody would give me a straight answer.

Here you go Captain, there's never been a state that I wouldn't crawl under.

Also on the Santa Fe River, between highway 301 and I-75 there are lots of bluffs and some downright cliffs. Worthington Springs has a park with river access in the middle of this area.

Yep, Alachua, Marion and surrounding counties are full of caves.  One place where they are easy to find are old limerock quarries.  They usually have multiple caves on site, most were uncovered by the mining operations.  There are still plenty natural ones though.

Ock, you could have included the Devil's Millhopper Park near Gainesville that looks like some limestone valley in GA.  Paynes Prarie near Gainesville that looks like the mid-west and parts of the Oklawaha or Silver River that look like the flipping Amazon!

Good call on Devils Millhopper... I checked that out for the first time last last fall. It reminds me of the 'little grand canyon' in Lumpkin GA.

Amazon? Been there done that, not even close except perhaps in Ecuador where it is still a stream, hell in Belem in the air, when your over the center of it you cannot see either shore! It's different in Leticia but dirty as hell, more like the Flint in Georgia on Steroids.

But your right, there are so many unusual places in Florida, the Mill Hopper is very cool, so is Falling Waters State Park where a there is a free fall of water over 70 feet. Red Rocks on the Juniper Creek Canoe Trail in the distant panhandle is another strange place but I couldn't find a photo that does it justice. There are also photos of Falling Creek near Lake City that show it as a rugged cliff that could pass for the Ozarks, but the snow photo had more honest scale.

Isn't Florida a wonderful place even without the Mouse?

Anyone else have any "Unknown Florida," photos? Let's post them!

Great collection Ock.  I was sure on all of them except the steel mill.... which a good assumption left me to believe it was Florida too.

The ridge is a beautiful area of the state and looks completely opposite of the typical Florida image.  My son and I frequent that area with the Boy Scouts and I am awe stricken every time we visit.  I've also tussled with Big and Small shoals on the Suawanee River in a canoe while on a 6 day Boy Scout summer trip down the river.  There are plenty of bluffs, springs, shoals, and gators to see.
