There will be a live press conference with Derrick Harvey and Quentin Grooves, the Jaguars first and second round draft picks this year. It should start around 12:30

Jason

How was the press conference?

Word is (after listening to Sam Kuvaris) there is a TON of positive buzz surrounding the Jags and high hopes for a great season and a possible superbowl run....

GO JAGS!!!

So what does everyone think of the decision to move up to grab Harvey at 8?

Sounds like a great decision to me.  The defense this past season wasn't what the typical Jag fan likes to see.  Hopefully this will fill in the gap by giving us what looks to be a great pass rusher.

The Jags need a number 1 defense again... couple that with the greatly improved offense and we got ourselves a fantastic shot at a divisional title and a superbowl.

great decision to me, The Jags roster is so good top to bottom right now the chance of a bunch of 3rd round pics and a 4th round pic had a good chance of NOT making the final roster.

The presser was good Jason, it was live, so it was a little short, but very candid, which I liked. They are trying to do some more things technologically over Jaguars.com so they have had some server issues and quiry site problems, they had some sounds issues at the start of the live presser,  but I like what they are trying to do.

The move to 8 was awesome, when I seen it, I immediately thought we gave up our entire draft class to move 18 spots. Finding out it was only our 1,  2 - 3's & a 4 was impressive. They shouldn't have been able to come out with that trade, but the Ravens must not have gotten any trade options. Hopefully it all plays out and the Dominant D is back.

the move to #8 signals to the NFL world that this season and the next 1 (or MAYBE 2) are it as far as opportunities to win a ring.  you don't give up so much for a first rounder like Harvey unless you are saying NOW is the time.  here's hoping that Harvey won't end up being a RJ Soward or Matt Jones.  gotta have more impact than those guys.  for the record, i think he will pan out better than those guys though.

I don't think things can get any worse than taking Matt Jones as early as he went a few years ago.

My concern is if a team is a super bowl contender, like the Jags are, they would have probably been better served giving up that first round pick for Jason Taylor.  I could be wrong, but it could take Harvey a few years to get to the level of production that Taylor gives you right now (if it ever happens).  Yeah he might only have three years left, but that's probably the same length of this current squad's chances of winning the big game before its time to redo the roster.  Btw, the Groves pick was a steal.  He has a great chance of being better than Harvey.

I think both were great picks.  I wouldn't take the Jason Taylor deal - Apparently neither would any of the other 31 teams in the league.  The guy is 34 and who knows if he even has one good season left in him.  Look at the team right now - it's not exactly an old team.  I think they have a few more good years left.  There aren't really any positions where I'm truly concerned about age (I was with DE).  Not to mention, of all of the positions on the field, D-Line is one area where someone can be ready to go right from college.

I am a little concerned with giving up three picks for Harvey - that is a lot, but DE needed to be addressed, and it wasn't in free agency.

Wrong.  We haven't mortgaged the future on these picks, and because we have less contracts to worry about our cap should remain healthy.  Unlike the Coughlin regime, Del Rio won't let this team go to salary cap hell to win now.  With Coughlin you could see the writing on the wall, now it's the complete opposite.  We have a pretty young team, plenty of cap room and a coach who is improving over the years.  Del Rio took care of the future a few years ago, and now the present is taking care of itself.  Also, we didn't give up that much for the picks-just 2 third rounders and a fourth (it was a bargain).  Typically, to make a trade like that you have to give up 2 first rounders a second rounder and a third.

Steve

Remember, you only get 7 picks.  The fact that we had 5 is hardly mortgaging the future.  In addition, the only picks we lost were second day picks, not first day picks.

Jason

Anyone know if "Ocho Cinco" will be available in free agency?

Why would you want that cancer on our team?  Our offense wasn't a problem last year.

Re-read my post.  I said we didn't mortgage the future with these picks like we would have done by trading for ocho stinko or Jason Taylor.
