Hey Noone,

Pending completion of his homework (which is a topic for another rant - too much?  I think so) Jacob and I are planning another paddle on Hogan's Creek Saturday morning (8:30 to 9:30).  Primary purpose will be to collect more bicycles.  Do you know if the tide will be high or low?  I am expecting cold weather but he says he is up for it.

Noone

I'm in!!

Still have to check with the big boss. Hopefully I can play. You guys can focus on the bikes I've got my sites set on another shopping cart.
I'll bring an extra kayak that we can use to haul our prizes out with.

Who cares about the tides or weather. I'm realizing the Skiles team is up for all challenges.

Its fun to make it happen.

JaxNative68

exactly where do you guy put the kayaks in the water for this for this trip?

dougskiles

There is an open area that looks like it could be a park (should be a park...) on the east side of Washington Street before you get to the Matthews Expressway.  We drove into the grass area to unload the kayaks and then parked the cars on Beaver Street.

Hope you can make it sometime - the more the merrier.

Nice pic. Right where Beaver St. dead ends. What an opportunity. A part of the Downtown Blueway. The Emerald necklace highlighted By Chan Krieger & Associates in a report for Downtown Vision and was part of a JCCI study River Dance-Putting the River in River city. This is District 7. New leadership can make it happen. The arial highlights the potential.

I want to paddle with you guys for sure!
so glad in my heart that this is all so very important to more and more folks!
Saturdays?
pretty regular thing?
the group I work with has recently adopted a few miles of highway so I can bring a slew of gloves and trash bags and orange vests if we need any of those supplies.

Yet ANOTHER JCCI study........hopefully this one comes down off the shelf and morphs towards reality.

Great pic, dougskiles.  I kayaked Hogans Creek with noone a while back so have a good feel for the waterway but didn't realize how much potential there is for a waterfront park in that area!  Noone, do you know if the parking lot in the lower right is city owned?

Noone

Miss Fixit It was a pleasure to meet you to and share a beautiful day on the water. One of these days we'll have to do McCoys Creek to. As to the parking lot I was there with Ennis and he was going to check it out. Marc McCullough also was going to check into it after our paddle. I'm pretty sure Jim Bailey has the information but I didn't ask him about it when I had an opportunity to meet him. I don't know the answer. I 've got a gut feeling that it is. If not the city then the state and that is OK. Still looking to paddle Hogans with Ken Jefferson and Audrey Moran. Its a positive issue and an opportunity for the next city council and Mayor. The candidates for Sheriff when they paddle this waterway may have an added perspective on how this activity could be used as a tool for troubled youth. There are so many other potential waterfront public access street ends that can be used.

I'm going to try to be there most Saturdays but doubt that I will be able to hit them all.  We will be there this morning and fortunately it will not be as cold as I previously thought.

Doesn't sound like the city. So whose SLG?

This limited liability partnership is controlled by Sidney J. Gefen.  Mr. Gefen founded Duval Marine in 1947 and many years later sold it to the City of Jacksonville at below market value in connection with construction of the northbank riverwalk.  Subsequently, the Northbank Riverwalk Park was renamed Sidney Gefen Riverwalk Park in his honor.  Mr. Gefen has been well known for his efforts to encourage tourism in Florida.

Seems encouraging - there may be an opportunity to work with Mr. Gefen to create a park along Hogan's Creek! Mr. Geffen is 90 years old; his daughter, Barbara Jaffe, is likely well known to many readers.

It was a beautiful day on the creek.  We encountered a couple of ducks...

and bikes...

and lastly a campaign card for Warren Lee...

Mr. Lee, please consider this your invitation to come paddle Hogan's Creek and Fix Jacksonville.
