Any ideas?

Ideas for individuals to enjoy or ideas for the city to implement?

If the former by all means, BE DOWNTOWN from 10pm until about 1am! Landing or Riverwalk are hopping.

If the latter then how about a benefit concert to fund construction of a SOUTHERN FRIED ROCK AND BLUES HALL OF FAME.

Northeast Florida, I assume? Yeah, the default is the Landing or along the riverwalk for the fireworks. A lot of the bars/clubs downtown should be packed, too.

The East Bay Street Bar scene will be an alternative to the Landing which is also a lot of fun. Plenty of choices and options. East Bay Street is one block off the river Downtown and is right behind the Hyatt Hotel.
I am including our flyer for this night but there are other venues in the area as well. Some may chime in here.
Main thing is that Downtown Jax is the best and biggest party on New Years Eve in NE Florida. Great fireworks show too! It is a true "can't miss" night Downtown.

RING IN THE NEW YEAR WITH DEREK TRUCKS & SUSAN TEDESCHI AT THE FLORIDA THEATRE! SAY HELLO TO 2011 WITH A NIGHT OF GREAT MUSIC, INCREDIBLE PEOPLE, A FEW SURPRISES AND AN UNFORGETTABLE CELEBRATION!

Unquestionably Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi are the most formidable husband/wife team in the history of southern rock and blues music. Trucks' slide guitar playing is second to none. He has led his own band for over 15 years, has toured with both the Allman Brothers Band and Eric Clapton, and was featured on the cover of the 2007 Rolling Stone "New Guitar Gods" issue. Tedeschi's powerful singing voice and fearless stage presence have made her one of the most stirring soul and blues musicians of our time. Add her knack for musical truth telling and her commanding guitar playing, and you have an artist who is quickly taking her place as the new generation's greatest female blues guitar/singer and, perhaps, one of the best ever.

Ha I used to get stuff from tedeschi food stores up in BOS all the time, funny to see the name in this context.

Tedeschi just means "German" in Italian.  Not an uncommon name.  She is a little lady with a HUGE voice.  Trucks is a guitar god and we have had our tickets for a couple on months.  Can't wait.

We have friends coming in from DC and Vero Beach just for the concert.

DW, hope you enjoyed the show as much as we did.

Actually, I was very disappointed by the show.  I am a huge Trucks and Tedeshi fan and felt that the show did not showcase their talents very well.  IMO there was too much band for the space and Susan's voice and Trucks solos were lost in the noise.

Two drummers, three brass players, two backup singers, a bass player and a keyboard player all going at full volume is too much for the Florida Theater.

It may also have been that the guy on the mixing board didn't do a very good job.

Those two are such incredibly talented musicians that they really don't need all of that support stuff and shine better when they can shine alone.
When all else fails hug the dog.
