QuoteGroup To Release Man's 'Radical' Speech

Months After Muslim's Approval To Human Rights Commission, Controversy Continues

POSTED: Tuesday, November 30, 2010

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville chapter of Act for America said it videotaped a recent speech by Parvez Ahmed that proves he has radical views.

Now a member of that group is trying to convince City Council members to remove the University of North Florida professor from the Human Rights Commission, which he joined just seven months ago under much controversy.

The renewed effort to remove Ahmed from the commission may have had its origin Oct. 9 when he spoke at the Fleming Island Public Library at the invitation of the Clay County chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State. There, Ahmed spoke about Islam in America.

He said that as he was speaking, another group was there -- the Jacksonville chapter of Act for America. This wasn't the first time they've clashed.

The groups website says the group seeks to "inform Americans about the threats of radical Islam."

Members of Act for America said they weren't there just to confront Ahmed about his views, but also to videotape his speech.

The group will soon release that video because they believe what he had to say.

In April, the Jacksonville City Council approved Ahmed's contentious nomination to the Human Rights Commission by a 13-6 vote, but members of Act continue to say he's not suitable to hold that position.

Leading a charge against Ahmed, Randy McDaniels, president of Act for America, voiced concerns over Ahmed's former job with the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which has been linked to terrorism.

Now McDaniels' group is getting ready to lobby the Council and the community to have Ahmed removed.

QuoteAnti-radical-Muslim group renews call to oust Parvez Ahmed

Death, Taxes & Politics

Randy McDaniels (left) once again wants Parvez Ahmed to be removed from Jacksonville's Human Rights Commission. The Jacksonville Chapter of ACT! for America is renewing calls to oust University of North Florida professor Parvez Ahmed from the Jacksonville Human Rights Commission and says it has video evidence of Ahmed sharing his radical views.

Randy McDaniels began e-mailing supporters Saturday and urging them to contact Jacksonville City Council members and call for Ahmed's ouster. Ahmed joined the Human Rights Commission last year after a contentious confirmation process where he was called to defend ties to CAIR and even asked to pray at a council meeting.

McDaniels says Ahmed's ties to the Council on Islamic-American Relations, a national Muslim organization that he used to lead, remain problematic. He points to recently unsealed documents from a federal trial that hold up the U.S. Department of Justice's decision to end its relationship with CAIR.

McDaniels also has begun circulating an e-mail saying that his group took video of Ahmed giving a talk at Fleming Island Library that supposedly highlights his extremist views. So far I haven't been able to reach McDaniels.

Council President Jack Webb said he wants to look into McDaniels' newest complaints before deciding whether he wants to call for Ahmed's ouster. Webb was one of six council members who voted against confirming Ahmed to the Human Rights Commission last year.

Webb said the recently unsealed court documents deserve his attention: "I want to read it, I want to dissect it, I want to analyze it."

He said the fact that it is a federal judge's review of CAIR, and not one by an organization with any agenda, that gives the matter additional weight. Webb said he will be looking to see if any of the information in the judge's analysis is new or wasn't disclosed at the time of Ahmed's confirmation.

Ahmed says the attacks from McDaniels are more of the same. He said the talk at Fleming Island Library was at the request of the Clay Chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State and on the subject "Is Islam Compatible with American Values?"

He said the ACT! for America members openly challenged him during his speech and were "very disruptive at the meeting and many people felt that they were threatening" to the point that members of Americans United escorted Ahmed to his car afterward.

Here is an excerpt from an e-mail chapter president Harry Parrott sent to Clay Today newspaper after that event: "The fact that part of the session got pretty heated was no surprise, because Dr Ahmed is followed around by anti-Muslim bigots whose plan is to disrupt meetings, make loud accusatory speeches, and bring charges against Dr. Ahmed personally. This is an ugly pattern, but critics are free to come. Most obnoxious are members of the ACT group, whose national founder sees Arabs as subhuman barbarians who pose a mortal danger to the entire world. ... It is precisely the presence of fear and hysteria about Islam that makes education and discussion a matter of urgency. We hope our meeting was a first step here in Clay County."

Ahmed also points out that other U.S. government leaders have been critical of the Justice Department's decision to cut ties with CAIR, but either way these facts were already debated during his confirmation process.

QuoteThe Jacksonville chapter of Act for America said it videotaped a recent speech by Parvez Ahmed that proves he has radical views.

I wonder if they'll edit it like Andrew Breitbart did the speech of Shirley Sherrod so that it seems to make Mr. Ahmed into a radical.

Jumpinjack

It would be nice if the press would do a little investigation on who these accusers are instead of focusing all the stories on Mr. Ahmed.

Sounds good, we should interview Ahmed and ask what was actually said during his allegedly "radical" speech. And since these right-wingers love their selective editing, I'd also be interested to know if there is any other video of the same event available from other sources.

Please let me know when you plan to interview him because I would really like to get some photos.  Thanks

QuoteActivist who led fight against Muslim professor on Jax Commission owes state $500K

"Consumer harm" was called "quite significant" by the state, which revoked Act! Jacksonville leader Randy McDaniels' contractors license.

Randy McDaniels loves the spotlight.

In January, the former contractor helped found Act! Jacksonville, a local chapter of a national anti-Islamist group that quickly made the fight against Parvez Ahmed its top priority. The University of North Florida professor and Fulbright scholar’s nomination to the Jacksonville Human Rights Commission led to hundreds of e-mails to City Council members, news conferences by McDaniels on the steps of City Hall and DVDs accusing Ahmed, a Muslim, of having extremist ties.

McDaniels has aggressively pointed a spotlight on Ahmed’s background, but not so to his own history. His record with state licensing boards show that he owes more than $500,000 in fines to the state for contracting jobs he botched or, in some cases, took money for but never performed.

Dog Walker

Crooked contractors are obviously much more common than Islamic terrorists.  This guy seems to be infected with terminal ego bloat.
When all else fails hug the dog.
