Is there a Goodwill nearby?

I am now free of roomates and in my own one bedroom apartment, but some of my furniture no longer fits. I hate just throwing stuff out, and I don't have time for a Craig's List sale.

Are there any Goodwill nearby that come and pick stuff up? I don't want any money for it. Just want it out of here without anything getting broken.

I don't know if Goodwill picks up, but the Jacksonville Humane Society will. 904-724-9242

The Vietnam Veterans thrift store on Atlantic also picks up.

Vietnam Vets will scheduel a pickup.  I've used them frequently in the past and highly recommend their services/cause.

I tried the Vietnam Veterans, but unfortunately they said their driver was not insured to handle glass. However, the Humane Society is and they'll be coming to get my stuff tomorrow and save it from the dumpster.

Good for you.

When I jog in the evening, I run past several apartment/condo complexes, and it always amazes/saddens me to see full sets of furniture, mattresses, and other such items laying by the dumpsters to be taken to some landfill.

There are so many people out there that can really benefit from a similar gesture to yours.

This must be the good person thread!

Can anyone recommend a place where we can drop off non-perishable canned goods, pastas, etc?   I tried calling Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless but just got the run around.

I just want to drive up and drop off a few (3 or 4) grocery bags full of excess non-perishables.   I'd prefer to donate to organizations which do not discriminate, so that automatically excludes most religious groups.   Maybe the UU has a food pantry?

When I lived at The Metropolitan on Church, they used to collect non-perishables for the Clara White Center on the outskirts of downtown. Have you tried them?

I'm partial to the Second Harvest Food Bank of North Florida.

Those are both good suggestions, thanks!   I've been wanting to stop by Clara White anyway to try their Clara's at the Cathedral for lunch, and I will also check the Second Harvest website to see if they have a casual drop off site.
