Thanks for posting Ryan. I for one am excited to see that wonderful building put to use.

Thanks for your kind comments.  We hope to finish putting things together with the building owners soon and get underway.  As you know these things take time, more time than any of us care to think about!

Its a pretty large building.  It should be able to hold those uses and a little more.

I agree, I think the bookshelves made it seem smaller than it actually is. The new library is bigger, but Hayden Burns is not a tiny place if I remember

Thanks for choosing downtown. More workers downtown are greatly needed and the library need to be put to good use!

QuoteOriginal plans for the building included a mixed-use development, including an “urban market” grocery store.

With this quote, and the quote in the paper about an urban grocer contacting the Laura Trio group... one has to wonder, is this Laura Street grocer 'City Market'?

Or maybe developers use the lure of a grocery store to get approval for their plans and then poof! the promised amentity always seems to disappear.

I could be completely mistaken here, but I remember watching a video interview on urbanjacksonville.info with Tony from City Market and he spoke about initial plans there. He said that with the way things cooled down in downtown, there wasn't a need at this time to go forth with a grocer there, but would consider it in the future.

Again, I watched this right before City Market opened and could be completely wrong in what I remember though.

Something incredibly fishy and unsettlingly familiar about that company. Can't put my finger on it. Gonna dig around some.

So I thought I read a while back that The Library needed only one or two more new tenants to sign and they could officially start development. With that said, is The Library project a go at this point? I look forward to them not letting us go in there for Art Walk due to the place getting worked on.

You can email the dude that involved with it. He actually responded to my email. I didnt really ask when it would be up & running though.

I know the thread is old, but there seems to be some more action in the Haydon Burns basement.

Last night I ran into a swarm of people (30-40) who were in town from the beach doing a Beach to Town Pubcrawl.

In fact, they were trying to drum up some interest (read investments) into downtown and I met a few of the people directly involved with the new nightclub/bowling alley.

There's still hope.

Ah, the old library. We had our engagement photos taken in there. I really, really hope someone gets someone does something with it soon. As usual, I'm not holding my breath on that one.
Do you believe that when the blue jay or another bird sings and the body is trembling, that is a signal that people are coming or something important is about to happen?

Im just curious to know what exactly is holding everything up. As teanet's they have ringtail, the night club and bowling, etc. How many more do they need before they can proceed.?

The reason for the holdup last year was that they had a lot of the smaller spaces leased, but they couldn't get a big anchor tenant, which is what they were counting on. Without that, the whole thing's on hold, and the future is probably shaky.
