Jason Albertelli. A Cat from Dos Gatos

Jason Albertelli is a Jacksonville native who has rewritten the book on downtown nightlife. His wildly successful cocktail lounge, Dos Gatos, has upped the standard for sophistication and attention to detail for downtown's bar scene and the city as a whole. As the lounge approaches its one year anniversary, MetroJacksonville correspondent David Paulk sat down with Jason one evening to tap into the mind behind Dos Gatos' success.

Dos Gatos is awesome... Jason and Joy are great as well as their staff.  Two thumbs up!
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Dos Gatos has really filled a void that was in the downtown nightlife scene.  I love the Bay street bars, but they're all just a different slant on a similar product.  If you don't feel like dancing, you're kind of out of luck.

I like the relaxed atmosphere of Dos Gatos.  The quality and service are impeccable.  Jason has really done a great job.

Orange Jalapeño Margarita FTMFW!  Discussion over.

I love DG.  Keep up the good work over there.

I agree that Dos Gatos fills a void in the downtown nightlife scene. While there was a time when I enjoyed Marks and Dive Bar late night, those days are no more (read: I'm getting old). I love the fact that you can sit and have a drink with someone at Dos Gatos without having to yell above pumping club music.  Plus, it's a cool bar with a great atmosphere - sophisticated yet still casual. The interior is beautiful - I love the ceiling detail and the exposed brick. I highly recommend Dos Gatos for those who haven't been there yet - the Stolen Fish is delicious!

+1 My days of binge drinking are pretty much over. I would rather enjoy a few well built cocktails over slamming a bunch of shots in an overcrowded meat market. Cheers to the 2 Cats.
And though I long to embrace, I will not replace my priorities: humour, opinion, a sense of compassion, creativity and a distaste for fashion.

Thank you all for the kind words and support! This first year has been fantastic! We've got some more surprises in store. Fireplace will be finished next week and I'm adding some more details to DG as well...

Also, please note that anything I can do to get Seka in that Cat Woman outfit, for the sake of the community of course, I will continue to do.

What is planned for the anniversary celebration??

RockStar

Capt Z - Saturday is Conmoto Music Festival which we'll be participating in. Then afterwards we've booked Whole Wheat Bread, one of Jacksonville's best rock/punk rock bands to play from about 11pm. I'm sure there'll be plenty of tequila shots going around as well. Just going to be an all around awesome Saturday night downtown!

Everything I've ever heard about this place is 100% positive, and that so rarely happens no matter what city you are in.   The only thing that has kept me from checking it out is that my partner and I don't really drink except for the occasional well-crafted cocktail, where quality supersedes quantity.   But reading these comments makes me want to go ahead, and now I hear there is going to be a fireplace?   Yes!!

I'll try very hard not to sound like too much of a fanboy... and maybe its because I'm old and not into the club scene anymore, but Dos Gatos is seriously the best nightspot Jacksonville has ever had.  Milk Bar used to be pretty b!tchin back in the day... but with Jay, Joy, Seka, Rachel, and crew I've never had a bad experience EVER(and never got kicked in the face by a dude in Doc Martens as has happened at Milk Bar before).  I mean even the best businesses will piss you off from time to time!

Throw in some Whole Wheat Bread... the only thing that would make Saturday any more epic would be also a live airing of the Pacquio fight.  But beggars can't be choosers, so I'll be there with scofflaw in hand kicking @ss like always.

Sounds like it's going to be a great time.  I'll hopefully be there to celebrate a Gator victory on Saturday night.

I have been to Dos Gatos many times. It is a welcome addition to downtown but has one problem, IT IS
WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY TOO LOUD.  When the DJ cranks it up you have to scream right in the ear of people who are right next to you and even that doesn't always work.  Super loud in the back room might work, but it goes right up front to the main bar and makes it pretty much impossible to carry on a simple conversation.

Heard a rumor on Friday from a friend of Jason's, only 1 person told me this, that Jason was planning to open a 2nd location at the beach, possibly in the old Fionn McCool's location. Not sure if that was their old location on 1st street or their latest along 3rd street.

Could be great news for the beach!
