The Milwaukee County executive ran a strong campaign on a series of checkbook issues, vowing to cut government spending by $300 million, bring 250,000 jobs to Wisconsin and roll back $1.8 billion in tax increases approved last year.

But first he will KILL almost 10,000 jobs

when fully implemented, Midwest high-speed rail will generate an estimated 9500 new permanent jobs in Wisconsin

Mica: I'll speed up transport projects

Rep. John Mica, R-Winter Park, said he will speed up the approval of infrastructure projects and free up “idle” stimulus funding if he is picked to chair the transportation and infrastructure committee in the next Congress.

“Among my top legislative priorities will be passing a long-term federal highways and transit reauthorization, a long-overdue Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization, a new water resources measure and a long-term Coast Guard reauthorization,” Mica said in a news release.

Mica, a strong critic of Amtrak, said he will push for a more efficient passenger rail system, including “a better directed high speed rail program.” Mica, who is the ranking minority member of the committee, is expected to replace Rep. James Oberstar, D-Minn, who lost his seat to Republican Chris Cravaack Tuesday.

You couldn't be more right there!!!  Which is why I think instead of the Fed buying up more govt debt to further reduce interest rates(which clearly isn't affecting demand for consumer debt) they should be making some guarantees in the commercial paper and factor financing markets.

Mica may be a rail proponent...but he hates Amtrak....and just the other day implied that HSR in Florida should maybe only go from OIA to Disney!

Fact it TUFSU, DISNEY is the only reason anyone in their right mind would build HSR from one of the most inaccessible damn airports in the country to an amusement park by way of an incredibly dense residential FREEway.

Hopefully Mica and Scott KILL THE ENTIRE PROJECT, and get FDOT back to basics, something we apparently have decided we can skip. "Just say no to Mickey Mouse trains..."

because Paula Dockery's husband C.C. spent millions of his (their) money getting HSR on the ballot in 2000
