There goes another country, FINISHED, with one of their high speed rails while our country is still lagging behind.

Quotethe CRH380 train covers 126 miles in just 45 minutes, with seats starting as low as $12

This is pretty much equal to the Mouse-Mobile right??

I'd be all for Florida HSR if performance/ fares were equivalent to this.

I look at what they have and we can't even get a lousy steam engine going! How far have we, as a nation, fallen? Breaks my heart it does!

This train could run from Jacksonville to Washington DC in just over 3 hours.

QuoteOfficials have already stated that they're hoping to improve speeds to over 312 miles per hour, with other nations reportedly anxious to get ahold of their technology.

Honey, what do you want to do for dinner? Oh I dunno... Miami?
And though I long to embrace, I will not replace my priorities: humour, opinion, a sense of compassion, creativity and a distaste for fashion.

well...China is spending $100 billion a year fo 5 years on their HSR program....and people here are whining about $8-$12 billion over 5 years.

and CS, you've been as loud as anyone complaining abou "rat rail"...fact is it is the most shoivel-ready HSR project in the country!

CS Foltz

Sure tufsu..............of course I will complain about "Rat Rail" and why not....$1.6 Billion for a 55 mile or so, stretch of track in the middle of the state! One stop will be in Ratville, stops on each end and Lakeland still has not decided where their stop will be at ..........but their gonna have one! College will have a stop and that makes a total of 5, which means every stop slows High Speed Rail down! For that route by car, you will save what 35 minutes? China can afford to spend $100 Billion for the next 5 years.............that money came from the USA! Does the word "Trade Imbalance" mean anything to you? Route to Miami has not been solidified, money has not been set aside but that is where it will go from Orlando! That whole setup stinks......you don't start in the middle of anything and then go to the furthest end and then go which way? Dedicated tracks and system for HSR are for HSR...........it will not be shared with other rail and standard rail will not work for HSR! So yeah......I will complain.............a little rail here.......a little rail there...........and the taxpayers get to pay for it all! I want organization, I want focus.............I want a cost effective plan for a national rail system for all! Not Rat Rail for Ratville!

For that route by car, you will save what 35 minutes?

The express route will take 44 minutes....driving by car today takes 90 minutes (without congestion)....if we don't widen I-4, in 2035 it will be more like 120+ minutes.

As for starting in the middle, we're not....Florida HSR starts in Tampa, goes to Orlando, and eventually to Miami and Jacksonville (connecting to the rest of the U.S.)...bottom line, you have to start somewhere!

So go ahead, continue to complain about the Florida HSR tracks not allowing other types of rail....then complain about how China has HSR (which also doesn't allow other rail) and we don't...makes sense to me!

Ocklawaha

Somehow (YAWN) my pulse hasn't increased one beat...  China is using AMERICAN MADE, track construction and maintenance machines to achieve what slave labor couldn't... STILL NO DETECTABLE INCREASE...  So your saying if I board a similar line here in Florida, it's worth flushing what we have built on for 100 years in order to pull out a 45 minute trip to Orlando from Jax? WHOOPIE FREAKING WOW! Give me a basic, AMERICAN MADE, stainless steel, lightweight, diesel-turbine powered AMTRAK train that kicks up that track speed to a whooping 90-120 (something we did all the time in the era 1890-1960..) and ARRIVE ON TIME-EVERY TIME... I'm speaking of old rail precision, airline "ontime" is +/- 10-15 minutes, I'm speaking of the wheels stop, the steps fall open, as the second hand passes over the 12.  Reliable, predictable, services at reasonable fast speeds mixed with the worlds greatest FREIGHT RAILROAD SYSTEM - which we have will always benefit us more IMO.

I agree Ock...I'm no fan of the demise in our passengerrail system and think upgrading Amtrak should be the first step.

I was just noting the hyporcrisy of being jealous of China's HSR while bemoaning country's first attempt at it.
