Ruins of Jacksonville: The Ambassador Hotel

Perhaps 40 million is overstating,but Im telling you all what I know for a fact.IF theres no damage to the foundations from being in water for decades,and IF theres no damage to the infrastructure itself,support beams etc,at the very least you will have to do a complete gut job,and you cant convince me that 5 or 10 million will do it.It cost me almost 5000 just to get a roof on my house!

Annie Lytle School has sat for 40 years with ZERO Building Maintenance done on it since the School Board owned it....when they finally parted with it in the late 70s , it was placed in a condemned status then.  That building is 46,000 +or minus , square feet,,.. in 2006 a price tag "approaching "  8 to 9 million to do a total renovation on it was the figure.. That building , compared to the Ambassador certainly appears to me to be in FAR WORSE structural condition, although no part of the brick or concrete is buckling , or crumbling yet.  At least the Ambassador has a reasonably sound roof system yet.  That coupled with the fact that construction has slowed and that contractors are hungry for work would lead me to believe in the case of both buildings, but particularly the Ambassador , that the renovation would not be 40 mm.. My guess would be 25-30 tops for loft conversion.  A big expense for both would be gutting,but the School has had help in that regard for decades with the on-going vandalism.  The Ambassador Looks pretty straight from the outside , to me.  My bet is it can and should be saved .   But then, so too should Annie.

Walked by the Ambassador Hotel one night last week, saw a red light eminating from a rear window on probably the 3rd or 4th floor, the rest of the building pitch black, one of the more eerie experiences I've had.
