Pteez's is a new gourmet popcorn store off Blanding near 103rd. My wife and I went in and couldn't leave without purchasing 4 bags. If you want a new guilty pleasure give them a try.

QuoteJACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Petersons are stepping out into the business world.

"We're stepping out of the box," said Crystal Peterson.

Gabriel and Crystal, parents of three, are now the owners of a small business.

"We wanted something inexpensive, fun, because everyone likes food that makes them happy, so we decided popcorn," she said.

They call themselves "Popcornologists." Gabriel just retired from the Army. Crystal ended her service tour a few years earlier. Three months ago they were brainstorming and decided to start their own business.

"You name it, if you want it on popcorn, we can make it," said Peterson.

On September 1, they opened the doors of Pteez's, a gourmet popcorn and carnival treat store.

"We have 31 varieties of popcorn on the shelves, but with over 20 flavors," she added.

Flavors like mango, bubble gum, and cookies and cream, and they make it themselves, along with funnel cakes and other carnival treats. Their store, which is in a retail center near Blanding Boulevard and 103rd Street, has only been open a week.

"It has been fair. We haven't had a lot of traffic, but we've had enough traffic," said Crystal Peterson.

Enough to encourage their entrepreneurial spirit. They're convinced that what Pteez's has to offer is a winner. Gabriel Peterson said many may not be acquainted with gourmet popcorn.

"But once they get past the idea that it is just candy on a popcorn and how good it is, they will like it," said Gabriel Peterson.

And it is just a matter of time before their Gourmet Popcorn business starts popping profits.

"We hope by Christmas we have a minimum of about 500 regular customers," said Crystal Peterson.

The Petersons said the start up cost was more than $20,000, and they are looking forward to when they can recoup their investment.

But for now they are doing something they enjoy: making flavored popcorn for their customers.

I will definitely be trying it out.  Coming from Chicago home of Garrett Popcorn I need to find something similar locally.  I'd be happy if it was close, I'll be ecstatic if it's as good as.
