Fountains are pretty but not very "green" when it comes to evaporation and water use. Think about the potable make up water they pump into the fountain on a daily basis when they ask you to conserve water at your house.

Very good news.  I think all-in-all this is a well thought out project that should be a great upgrade/repair for the park.

Now, pull the remainder of the money from Met Park and use a bit to fix up the Shipyards property for public use and send all the rest of the cash to the Springfield parks chain.

I'm fine with not having a 500 ft geyser of yellow/brown river water.  Once we clean up the river, then we should consider this.

They should use a rainwater collection system for supplying the fountain, or at least greywater of some sort.  There's no need to waste potable water on this.

The brown color will not go away. It has been explained to me that it is due to the breaking down of leaves that fall, flow into the river.

Yep, that water is never going to be anything but brown.  I grew up near the headwaters of the St. Johns and I have been there.  It's swampwater, and will always be.  The decaying plant matter is what colors it brown like that.
