JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Quarterback David Garrard has signed a contract extension with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Terms of Monday's deal were not released. But Garrard and his agent, Albert Irby, had been looking for something similar to the six-year, $67.5 million contract Dallas quarterback Tony Romo signed last season.

The 30-year-old Garrard is coming off his best season. He completed 64 percent of his passes for 2,509 yards and 18 touchdowns despite missing three games because of an ankle injury. He threw just three interceptions and finished with the NFL's third-highest passer rating (102.2).

A longtime backup who beat out Byron Leftwich last preseason, Garrard was entering the final year of a four-year deal that paid about $2 million annually.

I'm glad thats over!! He definitely got ripped on his guaranteed amount, but i think it shows how much he likes it here, that he's willing to take a cut. He is worth more than the 30mil Romo got, for sure!! I would think he is worth close to the 36mil Rothlisberger got too.

Ripped off???  I am a big Garrard fan but how can you compare him to Romo or Rothlisberger.  Romo proved himself for two seasons both of which he made the Pro Bowl.  And Rothlisberger has multiple pro bowls four seasons of production and oh yeah a Super Bowl.  Garrard has one good season and a half season collapse in 2006.  I think the 20 million is perfect

I'm glad the Jags locked him in for another 6 years.

My hopes are high for the Jags this season... lets hope DelRio has some tricks up his sleaves to win out the toughest division in the NFL.

I dont think Garrard deserved Romo money, but its not because Romo has proved himself. Romo is younger, thats the difference. Dont forget Romo hasnt one a playoff game yet. The pro bowl is a popularity contest, nothing more so I dont put any stock in that. Rothlisberger on the other hand has proved himself and has won a superbowl and is a young qb.

Romo deserves 30mil for crumbling the last two years in the playoffs? I do believe Rothlisberger deserves more that why I said Garrad should be closer to him but not 16mil below him.

Okay, but Romo still has yet to win a postseason game like Garrard did already. I dunno about you, but I'd rather win a playoff game, than going to the Pro Bowl with gaudy stats in the reg. season. I don't have any problems if someone think that Romo is better than Garrard, but I don't understand when people act as if it's a blowout apples and oranges comparasion like he's Joe Montana or someone. Another thing is that QB's like Romo and Carson Palmer have WR's like C. Johnson, T.O., and Whosyourmomma to throw to. Hopefully #9 will have a new, and improved Joey Porter this year.

i think the issue is more this.

the Dallas Cowboys vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars

Romo did make a Pro Bowl his first year as a starter in 2006. But compare Romo's 2006 to Garrard's 2007. Romo 2006 - 2903 yards 19 TD's / 13 INT's. Garrard 2007 - 2509 yards / 18 TD's / 3 INT's.

^ Nice stats Garrard!  I'd say they are pretty comparable athletes, Romo just has the name to go with it.

Jason

ok ladies, does Romo beat Garrard in the looks department too?

Steve

I think this contract is perfect - Higher than Anderson and lower than Rothlesburger.  Big Ben has delivered a Super Bowl to Pittsburgh.

I still don't get the Romo infatuation.  To me he is a decent, unproven quarterback that plays on a big market team with T.O. and Jason Witten, and a solid running game.  Even with that, he is 0-2 in the playoffs.  Garrard is 1-1 and anybody who saw the Pats game knows that Garrard was not the reason they lost the game.
