Do It Yourself Town Square: Dallas 2010

Urban living activists in Dallas took matters into their own hands, and with a little paint, a little enthusiasm, and some solid urban lifestyle principles transformed a horrible overexposed public intersection into an awesome funky, well used public thoroughfare.

"Crowd Sourced Place Making" is a way to transform our abandoned neighborhood town squares without having to ask for public monies, wait on government contractors or do anything as stupid as tear up all the streets for a year at a time, virtually guaranteeing the failure of all the businesses.

Check out these very cool videos.

Oh, and by the wyy... Dallas was so impressed they decided to make it permanent.

Great. This is how Curritiba transformed their main thoroughfare into Rua de Novembre in just one weekend. (Brazil). Jacksonville moves so slowly and bureacratic yet it is filled with people who love the city and want to see it work better.

Obviously respecting private property rights is key. He mentioned getting approval of owners.

This could be a great way to show that Metrojacksonville isn't about talk. What would be some of the best places in Jacksonville to do this. I love how they use the "guise" of art and and event.

LAURA STREET? 8th and Pearl? Where else?

Is there still interest in doing something like this in Jax? I'd be game to do something down along San Jose, or maybe in LaVilla.

This needs to happen to EWC.

The location similarities are uncanny.
