Doing what is easy has gotten us to where we are today.

and then we have the nerve to wonder why a significant portion of residents have no desire to visit downtown.

OK, so who wants to get together and save a building?  Let's identify an at-risk building downtown that is priced "affordably", utilize our collective contacts and resources, purchase and renovate said building and either use it or sell it.  If sold, profits could be used to do the same thing again at a new building.  Think about the impact the PR campaign could have...encouraging other individuals/groups to do the same thing and speed the process of downtown's revival.  I'm sure the media would eat this kind of thing up which could certainly raise awareness and motivate positive change.

Cracks and all, it can be saved if the desire is there.  2065 North Market is the perfect example.  A few years ago, nothing but the walls were worth saving.  The roof had already collapsed.

For those that are unfamiliar with the building being discussed, here is a photo:

If i was the Owner of this space after the building is gone I would build an Office/Loft or a Condo with a parking space on the first floor its a great location.

Unless I am looking at the wrong picture, that building was taken down in June of 2009 by the owner.

Timken, You and the building huggers better get ready for this bombshell, the Bank building at the corner of Ocean and Bay is condemed and according to JEDC, is too far gone to be saved. Get ready for a new round of complaining, but there is little you can do about it.

That building has a huge hole in the roof.  They could preserve the facade but I doubt they'll try.

I'm sure this delights you to no end does it not, Schlitz Boy?? :)

I heard from planning that there is no hope for rescue, but it does cost money to demolish, as Park View Inn has found. So most owners will let the city do it for them.

Timken - I can't wait to see PS4 fall in on itself. It won't take 20 years either.

@mtraininjax --- you're cold!  i wonder if you are not a fan of local history or if you simply believe yourself to be a pragmatist who sees the writing on the wall.  at any rate, if you knew how close annie lytle is to its devotees, you would at lest begrudge them some sentimentality, right?
