Frequently Discussed on MetroJacksonville.

Stephen, you're so misinformed.  Ionic bonds are way better than covalent bonds.  Agree to disagree if you want, but don't even think about asking me to lend you a cup of sugar. Houses in trees are better than holes under rocks, dip is better than chew, but I do agree with you on transmissions in older model cars.  That's some exciting stuff!

I would like to talk about the demise of the Christmas Sweater. Are we so insecure and conformist that we're incapable of making a statement with our winter attire?  I'm tired of earth tones and the occasional striped sweater.  Bring back teddy bears, rocking horses, and christmas trees on my sweaters!

I think that Macy's is like the town slut who seems to sleep with everyone else but you.  You know that she is no real catch, but you still wish that you knew why she won't give you the time of day.

I'd add downtown to the list.  It has the potential to be a much better environment but its overrated in its current state.

I sense just a lil' rare sarcasm from you on that one Lake.

No sarcasm, just telling the truth.  Its sold by DVI like its the greatest thing since sliced bread but a trip to most peer cities quickly indicates that we have a lot of work to do.  The TU articles from a few months ago only validate my opinion.  From the expressway, it looks great but at street level it resembles a scene out of 28 Days Later instead of what most view urban vibrancy as being.

Well put!  ;D

i agree with thelakelander --- downtown jacksonville makes for a dandy postcard when viewed from the river or from the expressway.  upon closer inspection, it needs some fixing up.  i like how events like art walk and the jazz festival bring life back to downtown, but i still think that we have a way to go when compared to other downtowns.

My bad Lake, I misunderstood you. I guess that I was lost in the abyss of Stephen's and Capt Z's sarcasm.

I Guess the race for Mayor could possibly have an outside chance of being worth posting about over the next year and a half. Hey stop me if I am overrating the signifigance of this.

I agree about the Aquarium.  Too many close-by cities have already done it.  Fifteen years ago, maybe.  I might feel differently if they weren't so expensive to build and maintain.

Jax is a long ways from getting an IKEA, so yeah, why talk about it.

Bass Pro Shops are a tourist attraction, but I don't see it happening either.

Yes but other than the first one the title would be better phrased "ever mentioned" rather than "talked about".

ScanDesign only sells furniture (higher-end), correct? Whereas Ikea pretty much sells everything for the household, including appliances, lighting, fabrics, kitchen cabinets and of course European designed afforable furniture.

So I don't think you can really compare the two at all...

Scan Design sells furniture from leading contemporary designers... Ikea is a store full of particle board.
Scan Design/Bo Concepts customers are not necessarily Ikea customers.  I can furnish a whole house at Ikea for what it costs for a nice couch at ScanDesign, haha.

And comparing Gander to Bass Pro is almost just as bad.  Gander is soo overpriced.

While we won't be getting an Ikea ANYTIME soon, Bass Pro is very likely.  More likely than most realize.

I dont know about snapper being over-rated b/c I love it and high end Yankee restaurants pay big money to buy Duval snapper and grouper to serve... but trigger is most definately the most underated fish caught off our shores.  Trigger is EXCELLENT!

Maybe there was an aquarium discussion in the wake of the MJ article about the original plan for the Riverwalks and how many elements never were incorporated?  I also recall a discussion of hypothetically incorporating a small-scale aquarium (something, I assume, along the lines of the one at the entertainment pier in St. Petersburg) as a feature in a riverfront convention center.

Stephen, what did you have in mind with an interactive aquatic interface center?  What I was assuming was something like what we have at the Virginia Living Museum here in Newport News--essentially a model of the James River that features a coastal area with brackish water fish, a mountain area with fish native to western Va, etc.
The tourist would realize at once that he had struck the Land of Flowers - the City Beautiful!

You obviously sound like you know what you're talking about Fieldafm, and Jason_content. Thanks for clearing that up for me concerning those stores. I was kinda tongue in cheek with my "department store overrateds", but I'm sticking to my guns with my three main overrateds Streetcar, aquarium, and decommissioned ship things that ARE commonly talked about on MJ.

I guess in the minds of City Management, Historic Preservation is overrated ;)
