Is there a rule in the NFL now that states that a city cant buy a team? I know the city of Green Bay owns the team, I would assume they were just "grandfathered".  Otherwise I would imagine most cities would buy their teams.

Yes, that's accurate.  I think there is a limit on the number of owners a team can have also.

This is from today's Ask Vic column on jaguars.com:

Craig from Malaga, Spain
How good is good on the ticket sales? The thought of losing this franchise is devastating.

Vic: Sales, from what I’ve been told, are steady. The situation is good enough that I detect optimism for the first time in awhile. Don’t, however, discount CFO Bill Prescott’s warning, “We have a long way to go.” Yes, they still have a long way to go, but the current indicators are cause for optimism. I genuinely believe the general bowl is going to be sold out for the start of the season. My concern is for the club seats.
"Ask Vic"- 5/11/2010

Jared from Jacksonville
In your opinion, will the Jaguars sell the remaining 15,000 seats to lift the blackouts?

Vic: Yes, I believe they will.

By the numbers from the last update on 5/6/2010

15,123 left to sell in the general bowl
1,675 Group seats sold (team has committed to 8,000)
8,000-1,675 = 6325 more group sales towards the BO number
15,123 - 6,325 = 8,798 Season tickets left to lift the BO
8,798 / 16 weeks left to sell = Approx 550/week

Very feasible!!!  Prescott has already gone on record as saying July is typically the best selling month as well.

QuoteI would hate to see them move east.
Hmm - the only way they could move east would be London - that doesn't appear to be in the cards - I presume that you meant west(?).

It's all moot anyway.  I predict that they'll sell out everything except the preseason games.  Wayne Weaver is NOT going to move the team.  Someone else could/would.  The concentration/effort will ultimately need to shift toward an ownership group that is commit ed to keeping the team in JAX once Mr. Weaver is ready to step away. Even if we have a packed house every week, there will be wealthy people without ties to this fair city that see viability elsewhere.  TODAY, WHO LOCALLY COULD/WOULD RUN THE SHOW IF NOT WAYNE?

I know former Barnett CEO Charlie Rice once tried to buy a team, pre-Jaguars, but NFL franchises cost a lot less then and he's at least as old as Mr. Weaver.  I understand that Tony Boselli has been working on trying to get a consortium of Jacksonville-based investors together.

Thank God for Boselli, we owe Mr. Weaver first and Boselli second.  Go Jags

You'll have plenty of people who will express dislike for the Gators, but just as many fans. I would suggest the Jaguars is a better product and one that certainly needs fan commitment.

Thinking of actually breaking bread and buying some tickets this year.  I'm a Gator fan first, Jag fan second but I would hate to see them move east.

Do it!  Im actually thinking of organizing a tailgate for MetroJax members for one game this fall.

That would be great.  I'd love to meet everyone from MetroJax.  I am in a tailgate group in the Tailgaters Parking lot on Talleyrand, near space J50.  But since I'm in Va I only make 2-3 games a year.

That is a great idea, count me in as someone that would be there.

I'd go too.  btw... Monday night game... Jags bring back the black jerseys (I know what Wayne thinks about too many jerseys) and we all wear black as kind of a shot at the media for all our "blackouts"  Thoughts?

Mattius92

Personally the black jerseys are the best looking we have, I am unhappy that they didn't use them last year. I always enjoyed the games with them in their Black Jerseys. Now the white jerseys make me sick, white is an ugly color, nothing really enjoyable about looking at white, especially when they get all dirty.

And you poeple just love to pick on newbies, but I guess that's what newbies are for, lol

I'd like to see the black jerseys come back also, but to be honest, I thought that if the Jags did bring them back, last year's Thursday night game against the Colts would have been the best time to bring them back.

I hope that you're right about this year's Monday night game though!

Who are we playing for this years monday night game?

The black jerseys are gone for good. Weaver wants the team to find an identity using a consistent uniform pattern.

Teal (jersey) & White (pants) at home / White (jersey) & Black (pants) away.

Personally I like the teal jersey black pants combo and old logos but understand what the team is trying to do.

And though I long to embrace, I will not replace my priorities: humour, opinion, a sense of compassion, creativity and a distaste for fashion.

Mattius92

Not going to lie, white sucks, but I can deal. I care more about how the Jags play then their uniform. However I have heard the saying, "Even if we suck, at least we look good." We just better not suck, haha.

Yeah I realize Weaver got rid of all the combinations for marketing/branding reasons but I think all black is great once a season.  Houston has their "battle red" that they wear; I think it can be a great change of pace and something to get excited about.
