Bos, that is a fantastic set of pictures!  We see so many black and white photos that the color really has a new impact.  Thanks for posting the link.
When all else fails hug the dog.

In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Yes, and I don't think that we're any happier.  I've been thinking a lot lately about the fact that - in spite of the economy - most people (including me) are burdened by having too much rather than too little.  My family has recently been reading all of the Laura Ingalls Wilder books and we have all been impressed by how strong and happy her family was, despite having very few material things (three kids sharing one tin cup and glad to have a scrap of cloth to turn a corn cob into a doll) and performing back breaking labor for everything they did have.

Certainly eems like there is more than enough to go around, if everyone would share a little more.....

Something that I find totally surprising was the fact that the poorest neighborhoods in Jax have the lowest suicide rate.  The highest rate was one of the richest places.  I think there is danger in romanticizing the plight of the poor; however, contrary to what our human mind wants to tell us, our happiness does not rest in the accumulation of things.

Its like in the movie The Matrix. The first Matrix was a perfect world. In this perfect world the batteries (Humans) did not last long. The machines learned from this and created a new Matrix with adversity, pain and suffering. In the new Matrix the batteries thrived and lasted much longer.
The few, the proud the native Jacksonvillians.

Whole point of movie Matrix is that if you are a geek you need to die first before woman will kiss you.

Great photos, but I thought they missed a subject for which I'm more then happy to volunteer...  Having lived through the last HALF of the 1900's, these photos are near and dear, my first train ride was on one of these big Long Beach bound Pacific Electric Cars. The Yellow cars are from the narrow gauge Los Angles Railway, both systems blanketed the entire Southern California metroplex with about 2,000 miles of transit based railroads. By 1963 it was over and every inch was abandoned or converted to diesel freight service. The FREEway lobby of the 1950's had a "better idea". Today the citizens of The Southland Cities (LA) are paying BILLIONS and BILLIONS of dollars to recoup just a fraction of what we all enjoyed. The interlude between the "old" electric railways and the new LRT electric railways was just 27 years, but the damage to the budget, environment and the City was beyond price.
