That is some of the coolest news I have heard in a long time.  I love the idea to make this an every month occurance too.  Artwalk the first Wednesday and Pub crawl on the last Friday of each month....  Beautiful!!  Best of luck getting this together.

Please do!  Those are the trailblazers of downtown nightlife

I am sure all bar's in the Entertainment District will be reached out to. With Mark's, TSI, and Dive Bar being the staples of downtown nightlife it would be strange to not include them.

Let me start off by stating that even though I work downtown and my exposure to the Bay Street nightlife consists of attending one happy hour at Mark’s although I have drank at the landing on multiple occasions. I was impressed with the amount of people I saw on Bay Street that night but I am just normally dissuaded of going out downtown by my desire to drink closer to home (St John’s County).

Having said that, I have been following the progress of Lit and Dos Gator on the MetJax boards and want to expand my horizons with the other Bay Street locales as well. The creation of a monthly pub crawl is enough of a motivator for me to want to attend the inaugural crawl and I have already persuaded a few co-workers to join me. The theory of “…and they’ll tell one person and then they’ll tell one person…” is what downtown needs to continue to grow so I wholeheartly support this event.

Lastly, I went to college in Upstate NY and my school had a main street with over 30 bars on it. There was a tradition called the Bridge Street Run that involved everyone stopping at each establishment, having at least one drink in each bar and having their t-shirt signed by the bartender (as well as their drunk friends). Now I am not encouraging hordes of drunks wandering downtown (insert your own joke) but I think that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to plagiarize the event and sell “Bay Street Run” or “Cowford Crawl” t-shirts that people have signed all night similar to the Art Walk Passports. It the shirts weren’t cheesy, they may be decent enough to sell year round as decent downtown Jax souvenirs. My $.02.

From UrbanDictionary.com:

Bridge Street Run

Annual event held the last weekend before final exams in Oswego, New York. College students at SUNY Oswego dress in white t-shirts and are armed with sharpie markers as they visit each of the many bars on Bridge Street. The object is have a beer and sign some shirts before moving on to the next bar and to make it all the way up Bridge Street before passing out. Everyone gets drunk and has a crazy time, only the strong complete the entire run.

"How far did you get on the Bridge Street Run?"
"Oh man, I didn't make it past Old City before passing out."

What's up with the Cowford thing? I'm a Yankee, so maybe I'm missing out on something. It's funny that as much as I'm always out downtown, I've never bumped into anyone from the boards.

Jacksonville used to be called "Cowford" back in the day. Cows were forded across river in downtown at the foot of Liberty St and the river. There's an historical placard near the county courthouse giving all the detail.

It was Fort Caroline as the original western name.

Jacksonville was never called cowford back in the day.

The place where the cows were forded across the river was called cow ford.

Its like saying that we used to be called Boat Slip or Ferry Landing.   I know its a popular expression but its just a tall tale.

Before it was Jacksonville it was actually Hansontown.

Didn't know that and I'd heard about 'cowford' years ago... good info.
