  Hi Folks...

I finally got around to joining this forum.  Alot of you probably know me from Urban or Metjax. Recently I joined Jaxoutloud, and now im here as well

And as most of you probably know , Ive spent off and on the last couple of years trying to bring attention to , and hopefully help to bring a solution to saving Public School Number Four, known to all as Annie Lytle Elementary School. Most of us are familiar with this long-time fixture in the Brooklyn area.

On Jaxoutloud, In the multimedia area, is a tour I took of PS 4 in January 2006 and a short news story on the School that aired the same month and year on Channel 4, where both sides were presented.

Im a common person , live a fairly simple life and am looking for only one thing from this; The School to remain there and be restored and adapted to some practical use.  For a couple of decades the proposal to develop it in to Condos has been the idea, of late, possibly demolished and a retirement facility placed on the site.  It is my hope that whatever lies ahead for PS 4  will not involve removal of this Stately and very beautiful Neoclassic Structure.

It is a privledge to be a part of this and the other Jacksonville sites.  Please feel free to communicate to me.

I cannot speak to any event , haunting , sighting of spirits or anything unusual occuring in School Four. There are no records of any kind of any deaths, murders, or any related activity taking place there.

I have been in the School  on two occasions .. in 06 and appx 20 years ago when it was standing wide open. I noted nothing like that.  I personally belive there is no truth to the allegation that the school is haunted. I have footage from January 06 that clearly shows grafitti all over the place inside the school and the neglect of the structure, overgrowth all over it , gives it a depressing and definitely haunted feel on the inside.

I belive the truth of the matter is , School Four served its purpose as a School House from 1917 (Replacing a wooden Schoolhouse on the same site) to around 1960 When the interstate system cut through the front of the property. That and that alone was the death of it as a School . I dont belive Crazy Janitors or Teachers or Children were killed. I do not know for certain but have heard there was a possible boiler room explosion and that the building has had a fire in the first story front entrance. Aside from those, years of vandalism and neglect.  That is the Ghost and the Haunting of School Four.  I firmly belive that in my heart.

Its days as a School are over ... That is a definite.  But an adaptive reuse?  Definitely has possibilities. Should it be saved??   POSITIVELY!

Welcome to metrojacksonville, Timkin. I know that you'll find many of those who will support your efforts to save school # 4...which is indeed, a building worth saving!

Anyone who is more computer-savvy than I may at anytime post the Multimedia content on the Jaxoutloud site here, whereever in an Annie Lytle Thread, they wish. Im just not sure of how to do it . =)

For the past few weeks , I have began working on the right of ways , cleaning debris , trimming and pruning what I could reach on the right of way property surrounding PS 4 .  Im going this weekend to mow ..so far im only allowed to work outside but for now, Im happy with just doing that. My thought is to work from the outside , inward to reduce the blighted ,neglected look of this property, and if  allowed , an extensive cleanup inside the school.
