I think you're referring to the Maddie Clifton case?  The killer was her next-door neighbor, and I believe he is still in jail.  Not sure if he was tried as an adult.

In his case he accidentally killed her, then panicked and hid the body.  I don't think he turned out to be the monster we assumed he would be.

I am hoping that little Somer was the victim of some similar accident.  I just hope she didn't suffer.  Not that it makes it any easier for her family...

If I remember correctly... the kid hit her in the head with a baseball bat because she wouldn't stop crying then stuffed her under is water bed in garbage bags. He slept on that bad until they found her a week or so later. Definitely not an accident.

^^ah, I had forgotten those details...or possibly overwritten them in my memory because they were too horrible.  Thanks, I did not mean to misrepresent that case.

Shwaz

I was 19 working a bagel shop in Mandarin (just around the corner from her neighborhood) and I'll never forget her mother coming in to hang this missing child poster... she looked like a person that lived a lifetime of torture in a few days time. It was heart breaking.

I hate to get this off track while people are still mourning for poor little Somer Thompson, but here's a link regarding Maddie Clifton's murderer. He's appealing his conviction... http://free-lionel-tate.blogspot.com/2008/11/maddie-clifton-saga-her-killer-fights.html

When you look at Maddie Cliftons mom, or Somers mom, you see real pain, real remorse, real fear. It makes me want to slap the crap out of Misty and Ronald all the more.

Effing losers!

That's because Misty had something to do with it, and everyone damn well knows it.

I was surprised by the news at noon on WJXT (4), they actually broke away from the Somer story and showed other news and the weather.

I watch the news to be informed about everything, not the Somer story from every angle and then told over and over again until my ears bleed.

I know I'm sounding harsh, but it's reality, stop with the endless reporting until new details arise, it isn't that hard. This isn't the only story/news going on in this city today.

I hope the kids that teased her and caused her to run away from her siblings feel lower than crap for the rest of their lives

That may possibly be the most horrible statement I've ever read on any forum in my life.
Amen >:(

ignorance at its finest

Seriously... how anyone could wish that upon kids who were just being kids is beyond me!

It was reported that Somer Thompson was "picked on by kids", at least one of whom upset her so much Monday of this week that she threw her backpack at him.  Our school system has a program in place called Safe and Healthy Schools, to try to prevent "picking on", which the program considers "bullying".  Bullying can lead to a host of issues, social and otherwise, for the victim.  Do you recall that several years ago in another state a middle-school student took all the bullying (or "kids being kids") he was going to put up and took a couple of loaded weapons to school with him?  There are two sides to every coin.  Will you allow me, please, to apologize to everyone whom I have offended with my comment.  Agreed, the kids who were "picking on her" (Times-Union's terminology) need counseling so that they can understand the long-term effects of what they have done so that they will not be destined to repeat it.  I was a kid who was bullied and this is a hot-button for me.  I do apologize again, sincerely, to all of you.

We all have our hot buttons and lose our judgment on those issues from time to time.  Apology accepted.  Thank you.

QuoteHang them upsidedown and skin that sick bastard alive.

Glad to see we have outrage over something. Dumping babies in a trash can may rate this outrage at some point as well.

Somer....RIP
