Now, I understand how big a story this is locally, and am truly sorry to hear about the latest developments, but this isn't the only news today. The local news has been carrying this as their only story and am somewhat annoyed that they can't even fit in the weather forecast.

Thank you!

Infact it's a bit sickening how the local news stations (or any media outlet) milk this story for ratings. it's awful.

it''s like they feed on human misery and fears.

Hell, they haven't even identified the body yet, what if in a messed up way it was Haleigh Cummings or something?!

Anyways, let them identify the body and all before you make this some giant story to where everything, and I mean everything else takes a backseat.

Ugh, I can't even imgain Nancy Grace right now, she is about as bearable as a jackhammer on a street.

I wish I could agree with you Jax Born, but on this one I cant.

Until you've lived through the murder of a child you cannot imagine the injustice and pain this act causes.  Its the one crime that I think deserves immediate death as punishment.
(Immediate death as punishment) Lets see it took Ted Bundy 10 years to be put to death? So if this person is found unless he or she is killed in Jail it could take five to ten years for the State to kill this person? But if you keep them in a cell 24 hours a day, 7 days in a week, 52 weeks in a year, with no TV or radio and no outside people to talk to. I feel this would be the right punishment for a crime such as this one.

Only if your willing to feed and clothe the bastard, thanks to labor, housing, security, food, water, etc... It costs a small fortune for each prisoner sitting in a cell for life.

The Greeks had it right all along, this bastards father should have taken a page from the gods and eaten him at birth.

QuoteZeus ate his pregnant first wife Metis, goddess of wisdom, fearing their child Athena would be greater than himself. However, Athena later sprung fully armed from Zeus' head when Hephaestus split it with an axe.

In many nations, including my Colombia, if he got life, it's up to his family to feed and clothe him... My guess is, had this happened in Colombia, this wretched excuse for a human would shortly die of starvation or exposure.

I hope the kids that teased her and caused her to run away from her siblings feel lower than crap for the rest of their lives and that whoever did this to that already upset child will get some good ol' prison justice from the inmates.  I do rather like the skin him alive suggestion...followed by a salt scrub.

In the meantime, it's going to cost money to shelter this bastard.  And feed it, and clothe it.  I will again bring in the argument that I, "as a taxpayer," would rather my money go towards any number of things rather than keep this piece of shiz (with a z) alive for any reason.

Public execution at noon.  Televised.  "This is what happens when you do this."

I seem to remember an abduction/murder in Mandarin a couple years back. It turned out that a minor was the perpetrator. If that proves to be the case here, how should it be handled from a criminal justice standpoint?

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but I guarantee if one of the local stations broke the pattern, they would be roundly criticized for not covering a local tragedy. Its a serious catch 22.

Also, I think that the ratings argument is a little bit of a misnomer. Are ratings important, when you are running wall to wall with coverage, you are losing ad revenue like crazy. So yeah, you can say "we were the most watched" but the companies who buy ad time are getting short shrift, and thats the only real reason ratings are watched, so that you know how much you can charge for ads!

The only way an event like this "helps" an organization is when that organization owns the event, and people see that. Look at Hurricane Dora. It effectively made Ch 4, and George Winterling a Juggernaut for the next 40 years in this town. It wasn't until CBS moved to 47 that Ch 4 came even close to losing its crown.

Shwaz

Count me in on the fear mongering going on... it's like the news station quietly hopes for stuff like this. I'm sure their rating have been through the roof.

I listened to the Sheriff's press conference yesterday on my way home and the line of questions were absurd. The Sheriff comes right out and says they can't give any information on the investigation and the first question is "can you give us any info on the investigation?" : /

The interviewer doesn't care if the info hurt's the investigation as long as they get the scoop.

I could imagine the Sheriff berating the reporter like a child.

And though I long to embrace, I will not replace my priorities: humour, opinion, a sense of compassion, creativity and a distaste for fashion.

Wow! ???
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

Why should children be mentally damaged for being CHILDREN. Certainly they all feel horrible, and will have to live with this memory, but to wish such hell on a batch of kids being kids. Lets hope and pray that these little ones can access counseling, and help to put this behind them. Frankly a smart ass remark could happen to any of us, we wouldn't want it coming back to bite us in the butt.

Well Put Ock. I actually feel just as bad for the kids who teased her. Kids make dumb mistakes all the time. As a parent all you can hope for is that you give them the tools to recover from those dumb mistakes with life and limb intact. Teasing another child, while not good, its hardly deserving of life long guilt, and all of the other issues that will come with it, including an increased possibility of depression and suicide.

This story just sucks all the way around. Whoever did this, or any crime like it, deserves a special place in hell.

That may possibly be the most horrible statement I've ever read on any forum in my life.
