Dear Friends:

Since launching the efforts of Touchdown Jacksonville and Team Teal nearly one year ago, our community has come together and demonstrated an amazing level of excitement and passion for our hometown team.

This support has never been more evident than at last Sunday's game when Jacksonville's Jaguars took on their long-time rivals, the Indianapolis Colts. Anyone who was in attendance or saw the game on television can attest to the energy and excitement that filled EverBank Field. In fact, after kicking the game-winning field goal, Josh Scobee was quoted as saying that Sunday's attendance was the best crowd he has seen in his seven years in Jacksonville.

So far, we've been fortunate that all of our preseason and regular season games have had great attendance and have been televised. We must continue that momentum and our next focus is filling the stands at the Oct. 18 showdown with another division rival, the Tennessee Titans. We absolutely cannot miss this opportunity to show our Jaguars pride in this Monday Night Football event that will unfold in front of a national television audience. If you have not already done so, and you are able, I would encourage you to buy tickets and encourage your family, friends and co-workers to buy them, too.

In addition to what we expect to be an exciting football game that evening, the Jaguars will host a special game-day experience before kickoff. Similar to the festivities held last season for the Dec. 17 game against the Colts, the pregame event will combine the enthusiasm of a pep rally with interactive activities for the whole family. Expect more details in the upcoming days about the free live entertainment, special deals and family-friendly activities that the Jaguars have planned. One thing is certain - fans of all ages will find plenty of ways to get involved and show their team spirit. All Jaguars supporters, ticket holders or not, should come out and be a part of the free festivities.

Also, I encourage individuals to wear teal to work on Oct. 18 in support of the Jaguars, and I encourage business owners to let employees leave work early to allow them time to gather their family and friends and get downtown to enjoy the game-day festivities. We?d also ask businesses, especially those downtown, to show their pride by displaying Jaguars colors and turning the town teal!

Each ticket purchased to the Jaguars-Titans game brings us that much closer to ensuring the local broadcast of this game and demonstrating that Jacksonville supports its hometown team. Tickets can be purchased by calling 904-633-2000 or by visiting www.jaguars.com. The excitement of a nationally-televised Monday night game combined with the Teal Monday activities will make for an exciting evening.

I look forward to seeing you at the game.

Sincerely,

John Peyton
Mayor
