Recently we visited Mt. Olive, Memorial and Paupers (aka Hillside/ Potters Field) Cemeteries. We find something fascinating and humbling walking through old cemeteries, these were no exception. Some recent graves in good condition and others in the process of reclamation.

These are old cemeteries and in some cases the graves are in rough shape, if you find this kind of thing upsetting you may not want to view them. Some are open, some in disarray and some are shamefully littered. I'm not trying to point a finger or raise issues. These pictures are what they are, just a moment in time.

These are such cool photos. They really tell a story of the lives lived by the people buried there, that somebody cared enough to mark the grave, and that in many cases, anybody that ever cared about the deceased person has also passed on...

I'm always surprised when I'm wandering around an older neighborhood and stumble across an old graveyard. I never have my camera with me, though.

I love the amateurish look of some of the tombstones. Looks like they wanted a memorial but couldn't afford a professionally carved stone, so they came up with something.

Thanks for posting!

Poor black people grave site. I went to two funerals there in the 80s with my godmother, place is really messed up now. The Slangin Em music video was shot there to. You can see that on Youtube.com
