Forget Everything You "Know"!

Ever have one of those photos that just smashes everything you thought you know? Well after months of searching, I finally found one that always seems to have that effect.

We all know (because the TU and Journal reported the findings of JCCI and JTA back in the day) that good old time trolleys are:

1. Stuck in the street with automobiles.

2. Slow vehicles of yesterday, not up to todays demanding commuter schedules.

BULL S**T!

This photo is from race #ONE. It was a stunt performed by the Cincinnati and Lake Erie (Interurban Trolley) Railroad. They challenged an early airplane, able to fly at 75 MPH to a race. That Interurban car flat walked right out from under the airplane and left it back in the ozone. Later FORD would try and pit it's much faster TRI-MOTOR airliner aginst the C&LE "Red Devils" and "Bullets". The FORD also ended up in the scrap heap of race history as again the C&LE broke the speed barriers at an unofficial 90+ MPH.

So next time some guy with a fancy suit, neck tie and "monkey face" trys and sell you a fast bus, tell him to look back about 80 or 90 years and redefine "fast". Jacksonville to the Airport? Orange Park? Heritage Trolley? Heritage Interurban? Don't let these spin doctors fool you Jacksonville. Tampa, Memphis, Little Rock, Kenosha, Dallas, or Savannah, none of them have a "HERITAGE INTERURBAN"... and JTA? Why JTA doesn't have a vehicle that could catch one!
