samiam..........makes too much sense! It would not take nothing at all to manufacture floating docks.........some empty 55 gallon drums and a frame work to keep the drums in place.......add floating walkway or gangway and poof!

I know they have a few moorings but just not enough to make it a true destination and if you look at there web sight there is nothing about moorings. I not sure are there any electrical shore ties, fresh water and pumpstations. I know there is no fuel. I use to tie up there in the mid 90s in a Coast Guard 82 ft Patrol boat and it was a pain in the @ss

FYI there is an article in the September issue of performance boats magazine about the Jacksonville poker run.

The Landing floating docks are not meant to be overnight docks.  Again, special event weekends are different(like FLA/GA, NYE, etc)... but the docks are not unlike parking meters or parking lots downtown.  You can't just park your car at a meter all day Monday and Tuesday.  The Landing docks are meant to be no different.

BTW, all of these amenities are offered at the Metro Park marina.  And the RCB and Berkman marina(s) offers these services if you are looking for slip rentals downtown.

RCB is a fun place to keep a boat.

There are a few temporary mooring in front of the landing but the rest of the water front on the other side of the main street bridge is not very small boat friendly. and it would be an easy fix. it looks like there is room for full service finger piers.

Yeah with the exception of the landing, the rest of the waterfront down there isn't small-boat friendly. Getting off a big boat is easy, the freeboard is high enough that you just step right off, but if you're in a smaller boat you have like a 10-foot climb up onto rickety wood walkways with no ladders.

Back by the ship yards maybe. The area adjacent to the bulkhead has high current which would make finger piers complicated. But a good test of boat handling and crowd enjoyment.

I think he means they should do something like what they did at the landing, which is basically just to put in lower platforms for small boats to tie up to. It works fine at the landing. Although the current can certainly be a challenge. After tropical storm Fay, I remember having both engines in gear and throwing off a bow wave but the boat was still just staying in the exact same spot relative to the dock. It definitely gets moving through there.

The area I believe you are talking about is a municipal mooring site that does indeed have power and water hookups(in front of Hyatt).  They often have large ships docked there like old clippers, navy ships, and the one small cruise line that operates out of downtown.  All the more reason to have a portion of the Shipyards property available for docking of small cruise ships and dinner cruises.

The Landing though has ample space along the floating docks(it takes up about three city blocks).  Except for special events, there is more than enough docking space... and then some.  And of course, the Southbank Riverwalk is usually completely empty.
