A Nerve Center for Springfield Here? (8th and Pearl)

What could be done here? There are many available lots I notice. It'd be nice to have
the whole intersection quad to develop, but obviously that would depend on ABC Uniforms wanting
to be a part of a new building. Otherwise, other lots could just as easily be used.

A couple three story business/retail mix buildings? Medical? Restaurant? Social Services? While I'd love to envision dropping an entire block of mixed use retail new construction there to energize the area, I know many would go bonkers, so perhaps just to settle for some of the vacant lots already there.

So, what could go there?

Well it does hit a nerve....thinking back on the 8th and Pearl project.

Are  most of those lots bank owned now? They used to be Craig's I beleive-and it continues down the east side of 8th too :-(

Retail/residential mix is perfect, I would love to see an independent (no chain) sandwhich/saladbar shop (think Italian deli in Phillie), a wine and unique beer shop, kids stuff (boutique clothing/toys), a great bookstore, Snoballs!!!!! and for the love of God a garden center! How about a vet? I would love to have a vet right here in the hood, once we could walk the dog or kitty or whatever too. There used to be a pottery shop (yep you could take classes on how to throw caly on a real wheel not the fake and paint stuff) on Pearl across from Springfield Plastics-that would be super fantastic too. Karate/Dance/Yoga classes right on 8th st? I am all over that!

Great ideas! I count seven plots, so technically you could do all of those, especially if it's multi story. Keep the ideas coming. This has potential even in a down economy. A garden center/mini home depot would be terrific for encouraging people to fix up their homes and maintain and beautify their property. Is there a hardware store nearby?

There are 2 great local hardware stores.  Yes, those were formally Craig's lots.  The one belongs to the Bridge and the Bridge Children's garden is there.

Several people in the neighborhood have discussed opening a garden nursery too, but most of that talk has been along Main Street.

how old is the building that abc uniform is in? if it is historic, i doubt people would want to demolish it for a new one. i would like to see something built on those empty lots across the street though
