I'm not trying to start an argument , however if you are in the right lane, going the posted speed limit, and other drivers come up behind you , flashing their lights, and waiving etc..(except for emergency vehicles)  would you say then, that the driver should keep up with the flow of traffic??

To me , it seems the speed limit could be 120 mph and there will be at least 10% of the traffic that wants to go 140 just because.

No. I'm only referring specifically to the left (fast) lane on interstate highways. Nothing else.

Refusing to yield to faster traffic in the left lane in most states is punishable by fine. Jeb Bush vetoed the effort to make the same here, and recent attempts die in committee.

Plain and simple, drive slower than the car behind you? Are you an on duty cop? No, move over. You cannot stop someone for speeding yourself.

Agreed.  I just hope that those people who drive 90+ miles per hour in the left lane know how to react if they have a tire blowout or other emergency.  If not, then their bodies and wreckage will be blocking traffic...

Another pet peeve?  People who drive in other people's blind spots.

It kind of depends on your perspective here.

I have one vehicle (an SUV) that I don't go that fast in. It isn't equipped to handle speeds. But I have another vehicle for which 90 is like you're standing still. The tires on that one are tested/rated to 200+ mph, and the brake discs are larger than the actual wheels on most cars. Just because someone's crappy minivan starts falling apart and can't manuever without a mile of clear distance in every direction once it gets over 70 doesn't mean that problem carries over to every other vehicle on the road.

But what's this got to do with some idiot going 60mph in the fast lane on I-95, refusing to move over for faster traffic, and flooring it so people can't get around him? I have news for you, controlling what speed everybody else goes isn't your job. Either move with the flow of traffic or move the @#$% over. End of story.

You just helped me to make my point.  If someone wants to be a speed demon, they had better be able to properly maneuver their vehicle down the fast lane.  How many times have people lost control of their cars and gotten into wrecks because they think that they are the next Tony Stewart?  I don't mind the left lane being used for fast drivers, but I take issue with those who witlessly put their lives and other lives at risk because they think that they can push the pedal to the medal without the proper skills to drive fast.

P.S. - Don't put words into my mouth.   You don't know me well enough to assume that I think it's great for slowpokes to take up residence in the left lane.  I never said that and never will.  You're picking the wrong argument if you think that I do...   Try to pick a real fight with someone who actually does drive 60 in the left lane...END OF STORY!

I wasn't speaking to you specifically. I have no idea who you are, much less what car you're driving in traffic.

Was just speaking generally RE all the people who want to play passive-aggressive and drive under the limit in the fast lane, intentionally not letting anyone by.

My absolute favorite is having someone come to a DEAD FREAKING STOP at the end of a highway on ramp. No comprehension of what yield means...just ALL ENGINES STOP. Then, since my car has all the acceleration of a tectonic plate...I get to play real life frogger.

Fair enough.  It looked like that post was aimed at me and my 1979 Ford Pinto (jk)...

Haha, no, not aimed at you. Aimed at the moron in the Dodge Caravan who insisted on going the exact same speed as the car next to him from Saint Augustine almost to Jacksonville, and speeding up when I tried to get around him, last night. And I mean the exact same speed, there is no way it was accidental. I only finally got around him when the car he was next to moved right and exited. And even then, the douche cut me off with two feet to spare by jacking over into the middle lane as I was passing him, so I had to jerk left to pass in the lane he was just in. I couldn't go far right because there was a never ending parade of semi trucksSome people take real pleasure in controlling little mind-games. I really wasn't talking about you though!

you kids went agro!
along these lines -- anyone surprised you can still access the Union St exit through DT, from the far LEFT I95n/I95s partial bypass of the new 10 merge?

Timkin, do you remember the Cosworth Vegas?

All my driving pet peeves have been covered here, but I still ask the question if drivers education was taught in the schools the last 25 years.
Excuse my ignorance but who teaches a young Jacksonville driver to drive before the test?

Cricket

I think that some drivers insist on staying in the left lane because it is generally the smoothest lane. For example, going south on 95 all the way from X340 to the St. Johns border you are literally driving on railroad tracks except for the express lane. The other lanes take a beating from trucks.

As for me I always pull over to the center for passing vehicles. Not everyone does.

I think a cosworth Vega rolled off the block

For me, a unwritten rule on driving. If you're the first car at the red light in the right lane going straight, and you are in a spacious turn area, try pulling your left wheels closest to that white single striped line on the left; You'd be surprised on how many right-turning cars you let by behind you. I've even let in large trucks many-a-time. Of course there are many idiots out there that only care about themselves, so they pull up right in the middle of the damn turning area blocking everyone. Same thing concerning a left turn, if you're the first car making a left turn, why the hell are you in the middle of the turning area? Idiots like that do their shopping the same way like leaving their shopping cart in the middle of the aisle, blocking people.

Especially on our narrow Riverside streets, it is the polite thing to do, when you are turning left, to pull into the middle of the intersection to let the people blocked behind you go around on your right while you are waiting for an opportunity to turn.  You have to turn more sharply, but that is not a big deal to keep the traffic flowing smoothly.
When all else fails hug the dog.

of course permitting right turns on red is generally a bad thing for pedestrians

I agree with I-10east 100% about this.  I have often been stranded at Park and Post Streets and stuck behind some jerk who is turning left onto Post Street.  Northbound traffic is at the mercy of such inconsiderate drivers who force us to sit through two or three cycles of the traffic signal...
