Another annoying driving behavior is when you encounter a stopped vehicle - let's say it's in a parking lot.  The vehicle is stopped for a few seconds.  It looks like it is not going to go anywhere anytime soon.  You go ahead and drive around it; the driver of the stopped car decides suddenly to move his car, too.  How rude!

Thinking the damn Yield sign means MERGE, something that I've noticed seems almost universal now.

but to most the merge sign means stop and wait for a 1/2 mile break in traffic even though you have 1000 ft of uninterupted lane in front of you to accelerate in, so it evens out.
A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Timkin, do you remember the Cosworth Vegas?

All my driving pet peeves have been covered here, but I still ask the question if drivers education was taught in the schools the last 25 years.
Excuse my ignorance but who teaches a young Jacksonville driver to drive before the test?

Very definitely do .. mine is NOT a Cosworth , but for a 1976 is not bad.  It is a GT

Dog Walker

And I thought all of the Vegas had rusted away YEARS ago!
When all else fails hug the dog.

Three more pet peeves...
1. People who decide that the entire outdoors is their ashtray.  Especially when they ash in the vicinity of passing cars or when they toss cigarette butts.  Apparently, these drivers do not want to mess up their own cars, but do not mind polluting everything else.
2. People who insist on coming to a complete halt when they make a turn.  I understand that there is a safe speed for turning, but taking an entire decade to turn is ridiculous.
3. People who tailgate in the right lane.  Either pass or get off my bumper!

For me, a unwritten rule on driving. If you're the first car at the red light in the right lane going straight, and you are in a spacious turn area, try pulling your left wheels closest to that white single striped line on the left; You'd be surprised on how many right-turning cars you let by behind you. I've even let in large trucks many-a-time. Of course there are many idiots out there that only care about themselves, so they pull up right in the middle of the damn turning area blocking everyone. Same thing concerning a left turn, if you're the first car making a left turn, why the hell are you in the middle of the turning area? Idiots like that do their shopping the same way like leaving their shopping cart in the middle of the aisle, blocking people.

You're so right. That is the single nastiest thing people can do in Riverside. Because of the density, a car doing this can pile up traffic and make you wait for 3-4 light cycles. You can seriously go from being 15 minutes early to being late because of one car doing this. Some of them it's totally intentional too, they flick you off or honk at you if you pass them anyway. This is almost up there with the women trying to park in Avondale who shut down both lanes of Saint Johns Ave for 10 minutes so they can do an illegal 57-point turn because they don't feel like going around the block like they're supposed to in order to go the opposite direction.

I owned a Cosworth Vega in High School.  It was Green with gold racing stripes!

Just got back from a trip cross country to Gainesville... Now I have a whole new hate!

What the hell is up with fairly young guys, in brand new 450 cu in, V8, extended cab pickup trucks, driving 45 mph on a wide open country highway good for and posted at 65? Not just one, but about 5 of these jokers... some of them plodding along for a dozen or more miles. In the rolling hills of Trail Ridge and the Gainesville uplands, there is no way to pass with fairly steady opposing traffic.

DAMN THESE PEOPLE!

  • People who don't follow simple and easy traffic laws. It's not a speed suggestion. It's not a stop-if-you-want-to sign, nor light.
  • People who think that there are unwritten rules that all are supposed to follow. There are no unwritten rules. Just try following the written ones. If a road is beyond its designed capacity, then you're just part of the problem whether you invent new rules to navigate it or don't.
  • Drivers who are impatient or in a hurry and who think those who AREN'T are the problem.
  • The system that lets all of the above and their grandma have a license.... to operate a dangerous vehicle. Really, when driving went from a privilege to a separation between "normal" and "what the hell is wrong with you that you don't drive?" then licenses become a waste of ink and plastic. Just give out an American cultural deviant card to anyone who isn't allowed or able to drive and end the whole DMV charade. (You know, like the 'beard cards' BYU gives out to male students who are unable to or shouldn't shave because of medical reasons or disfigurement?)

And yeah, so..... pretty much most of the previous posters here. *dodges tomatoes* ;)

There's no law says I have to open the door for an elderly grandmother in a wheelchair either, but I still do it.

It's about common courtesy, letting faster traffic pass, not blocking turn lanes, etc.

Sorry you apparently need a law telling you to be respectful to others.

I concur.  We have people who blow megabucks to purchase to latest, top-of-the-line, gas-guzzling tank - only to drive along every road and highway like they are the long-lost spawn of Percy Dovetonsils.    While I dislike aggressive driving, I also am irked by people who would be better of riding a bicycle to enjoy the scenery...

Another annoying habit --- people who block intersections during heavy traffic.  The light changes and there is a complete standstill because no drivers can advance on their green light...

Wait a minute, I'm legally allowed to go over the speed limit on the left lane?  I didn't know that.  Would a judge be ok with that?

I always thought the fastest I am allowed to go on a road was the speed limit.  Is the limit 80 or something on the left lane while 65 on the right?

Keith-N-Jax

The cutting me off just to exit one, now thats very Annoying.

I call this "Walking" the car.People are guilty of it looking for addresses, real estate and Christmas lights.
It's legal but annoying.Everyone should know to always yield to faster traffic (Even if you "Decide" that driver is wrong.)
