QuoteThe Axemen are asking all their fans, sponsors and Jacksonville residents to attend this Saturdays game and be in their seats by 4.45pm to witness the induction ceremony as young men and women from the Jacksonville area enter the US Air Force. The ceremony will take place on the half-way line at 4.50pm as the highlight of the pre-game activities as the Axemen take on the Philadelphia Fight in their final regular season home game. The ceremony will be complete with full color gaurd presentation.

The US Air Force Recruitment office has been attending all the 2010 Axemen games with a variety of fun and interactive items like their "Decked Out" SUV, an inflatable football toss, branded golf cart and the very popular T-Shirt cannon. "I don't really think I can use the correct words to explain how honored we are to have this ceremony happen as part of our game", said Spinner Howland. "These young men and women are going to be officially starting their military careers in front of us with our fans as witnesses. Their families and friends will be in the stadium and I cannot imagine the emotions that go along with such an event. It is nothing short of an honor and privilege to have this happen live at our game. I can only ask that the Axemen faithful and all Jacksonville residents come and witness something so important to every person who lives in the USA."

The Axemen are also allowing any active duty or retired member of the military who show up in any uniform or attire that has military insignia on it FREE entry to this game.

Players on the Axemen team will most certainly use the emotion of the day to come out firing on all cylinders and will be determined to celebrate the day by giving all those in attendance a huge win and keep their undefeated record in tact and the first 250 fans in the gate will also get an appetizer coupon from Carrabbas Italian Grill.

QuoteRound 6 of the American National Rugby League includes some very competitive matchups with the best looking to be Philadelphia at Jacksonville.

The Axemen have featured in our Game of the Week preview for the past few weeks, but that’s for a very good reason â€" they’re pretty good.

Jacksonville (4-0) has been unstoppable to date and the Fight (2-1) will really have to lift their game if they’re to upset the apple cart.

Brent Shorten, Apple Pope and Akarika Dawn are just three of the standouts for Jacksonville and all have been causing problems galore for the opposition since the season started in early June.

The Axemen’s offense has been almost flawless with hard, straight running lanes, particularly from dummy half, while their first up tackling on defense has been as rock solid as any team in the league.

Philly has an improved roster that includes the likes of captain Brad Kielinski, James Brunson and Zack Padgett and so far they’ve been getting it done for the most part.

The big question is, however, can they overpower an Axemen side that has shown very few weaknesses on either side of the ball.

The US Air Force will hold an induction ceremony as the highlight of the pre-game ceremonies.

"We cannot begin to imagine the emotion of the families who will be in attendance during the event, so all we can do is be there in numbers to show support and respect what their loved ones are about to begin," was the comment from the Axemen.

Also on tap Saturday is the top ranked New Haven Warriors hosting the Northern Raiders.

On paper, this one looks to be a foregone conclusion with the unbeaten Warriors (4-0) showing excellent form so far, while the Raiders (0-4) have been doing it tough, although they have been improving.

The New York-based club has brought in two Australians in Dan Sansone and Mathew Bailey, who made an immediate impact on the Raiders’ game last week against Connecticut. Other players to watch include Robert Ploth , Paulo Reis and Joel Venables.

In other news, the Pittsburgh Vipers will forfeit their scheduled match with the New York Knights due to a lack of numbers to travel to the big apple.

Weekend schedule (home team listed first):
Jacksonville Axemen v Philadelphia Fight
New York Knights v Pittsburgh Vipers (Vipers forfeit)
Boston 13s v Connecticut Wildcats
Fairfax Eagles v Washington DC Slayers
New Haven Warriors v Northern Raiders
Aston DSC Bulls (bye)

Another big win, another big crowd.  One more regular season game in Aston, PA.  The next home game should be the first round of the playoffs which will be Aug 14.  There may be a couple of "team activites" here at home between now and then.  This is best sports value for your money here in town.  Lots of hard hitting action, dollar beer and this week they were giving out coupons for free Carrabbas appatizers which is more than the price of admission.

QuoteFrontrunners New Haven and Jacksonville continued on a path to a possible championship showdown by posting their fifth straight victories respectively in Round 6 of the American National Rugby League.

Other winners included Washington and Boston.

In the Game of the Week, the Axemen scored first and were never headed as they stayed unbeaten by downing the Philadelphia Fight 30-10 Saturday in Jacksonville, FL.

In their last regular season home game for 2010 and in front of 2300 cheering fans, Jacksonville scored in just the fourth minute when halfback Luke Gray put in a perfectly judged 40/20 kick that put his team in a great attacking position.

Gray kicked the ball from inside his own 40m and bounced the ball into touch inside Philly’s 20m and from the ensuing play; Jeremy Garnaro barged over for the opening try.

The Axemen were in again minutes later when Matt Thornton got the first of his two tries, before Philadelphia hit back with a good try of their own by Pat Kelly, which had been set up by a barnstorming run along the touchline by captain Brad Kielinski.

Other than that one early blemish, the Fight defended well in the first quarter and trailed 8-4 at the end of 20 minutes.

The second quarter was all Jacksonville with two more scores by flyhalf Brent Shorten, the second being a 90m intercept try for a 16-4 halftime lead.

The match was punctuated by a high turnover rate, dropped balls and knock-ons by both teams although it didn’t stop Thornton from getting his second try in the third quarter.

Philly scored early in the fourth to make it 20-10, but the Fight couldn’t peg back the difference any further and after Gray, who was named the Outback Steakhouse Axemen MVP, and Marc Hanke scored tries it was all over in Jacksonville.

Yesterday was our first time watching the Axemen and we had a great time.  Only 5 bucks and lots of action on the field.  Only complaint is that the Redhook was gone right after the game started.  NOT a fan of bud light, but I still managed to put a few down.

All in all a very fun afternoon and well worth the very low cost of admission.  I just wish the local press would get their head out of ass and give these guys some coverage.  Absolutely nothing in the T-U sports section today, but there were 5 pages of baseball garbage and even an blurb about Poker!  Really?  They'll cover poker but not an exciting and demanding sport like Rugby?

Kudos Spinner!

Glad you made it out. The first round of the playoffs should be the 14th of August here at home.

They put on a great show.  A winning team and other stuff to keep everybody entertained.  In 5 years I have yet to win anything at the half time raffle.  Someone in our group did win and Outback certificate yesterday though.

Hope you can make it to the playoff game, just be sure to bring a friend or two.  PM me and let me know if you are coming and you can join us for tailgating.
