TimeLord75

Greetings & Felicitations!  Just discovered this board recently (believe it or not), figured I'd hop on & see what I could learn about this place I've found myself in.  I've actually been living here in Jacksonville for a little over 5 years, but yeah...my navigational skills, how shall we say...suck.  :P  Oh, and I rather loathe downtown.  (There, that's a nice opening troll-shot...  ;) )  Looking forward to chatting & maybe learning something with y'all!

Welcome TimeLord. Don't feel bad, I've been here for 24 years (driving for a decade), and I still get lost in some areas in Jax. The other day I was trying to get back to Pearl Street in Lake Forest, and found myself on Lorain St; I've never been on Lorain St. in my life until then! Jax has SO many back streets! Not too many folks on MJ that "loathe" DT; Many on this site will think that opinion is blasphemy! LOL.

Welcome Timelord... hopefully after reading about some of the fun places to go downtown we can change your mind.
In a boat at sea one of the men began to bore a hole in the bottom of the boat. On being remonstrating with, he answered, "I am only boring under my own seat." "Yes," said his companions, "but when the sea rushes in we shall all be drowned with you."

No you are not lost. Just call it "unscheduled exploring."

I thought GPS units were ridiculous.  "Wazza matter? Can't read a map?"  Then I got to try one in a rental car in a strange city and am totally hooked.

Be careful of the directions the unit will give you around I-10/I-95 interchange right now though.  Maps can't keep up with the new construction detours.

TimeLord...do not attempt to adjust your GPS or otherwise fix this peculiar but really cool thing about Jacksonville. There is just something about the area, likely defined by gerrymandered waterway shorelines and roadways that do not follow straight line North/South/East/West.After thirty years I still get turned around-it's wonderful.

Given your screen name, TimeLord75, I figured you would take the "a straight line may be the shortest distance between two points, but it is by no means the most interesting" philosophy of JAX navigation.

Living near downtown makes you adept at JAX directions. Everyday, another closed bridge, a new interchange flow, a closed ramp, a closed road, blinking traffic lights funneling people out of downtown after Jags games, or other such nonsense presents a new navigational challenge. :)

Hi, TimeLord 75!  Welcome to the MetroJax site!  Several of us can give you better directions to anywhere in the city if you just ask. We're better than a GPS.
