JTA needs to put some pep in their step.

QuoteBy Larry Hannan
It's been seven months since the Jacksonville City Council agreed to revise the city's sign law so the Jacksonville Transportation Authority could build bus shelters with advertisements on them.

Now, council members are wondering where those shelters are, while JTA insists it is moving as fast as it can to get the shelters built.

JTA lobbied the council to change the sign laws so it could hire a sign company that would build and maintain bus shelters in Jacksonville. In return, the sign company would be allowed to place commercial signs on the shelters, which would generate revenue.

I'm sure JTA would argue that they were asked to meet further with critics of the plan (isn't it nice to see that Art Graham doesn't think that is important)....also, as we saw here last week, JTA has developed a shelter concept for downtown that now must be approved by the DDRB.

tufsu .....I have to ask just what "Art" has to do with this? Not sure about the shelter end of things but do know he was, at one time, all in for LR/Trolly!

OK ......read the article! Art is the Council liason for JTA and he questions why this is taking so long! I happen to agree and question why JTA did not try and do something without going the advertising route! If it is just a question of money, JTA could get serious and do some soul searching and start by cleaning their house up first! If you tell me there is no waste with either them or JEA.......well you know just what I am going to say, don't you? Seen both companys wasting time and money, crews just sitting in the trucks with motors running and reading newspapers or sleeping! Yep......real frugal with our tax dollars they are!

CS, you are on a roll!  +1 +1 +1

While police and fire pensions are under scrutiny, someone should check out JTA's too.  And, all their other  costs.  I bet there is some gold under those finger nails somewhere.  Maybe even enough to fund bus shelters without ads.
Hey!  Whatever happened to just plain ol' COMMON SENSE!!

I agree! Johnny is really good about fire and police and without much hesitation! But we have AMIO's (227 of them costing us $27 Million Dollars a year, don't see John Boy saying anything about them!) Worker bee's in the trenches doing the day to day scut work, don't see anyone from middle management up taking or even discussing a paycut of 3%! Somehow until we have an administration change, I don't see much taking place other then flapping of lips and the continued waste of money by City Hall! But thats just MHO!

how frustrating....

JTA wants to do  shelter advertising and finally gets approval to proceed from Council...but is asked to coordinate with dissenters....now Council wonders why it is taking so long to install the shelters.

Seems like Council (and you guys) don't want JTA to talk with dissenters!

Not so, Tufsu.  But, it would have been nice if they had paid them proper homage BEFORE ramming this through at any cost to get their way.

We do agree .... "how frustrating."

Yes............."How frustrating"! Like usual, JTA had no plan B and went off half cocked! For supposedly having qualified transit planners and the like, they demonstrate over and over a severe lack of being prepared for any contingency. No vision or plan, not to mention no funding either for something that should be basic to any system for maximum rider useage!
