Pedestrian Projects Gallery presents “Portent, I Said Portent!”
August 31st, 7- 10 pmâ€"Opening public reception

Pedestrian Projects gallery is delighted to present its inaugural exhibition, "Portent, I Said Portent!". The show features artists Byron King, James Greene, Brittni Wood, Mark Creegan, and Kurt Polkey, and will include painting, sculpture, drawing, and installation.

The title of the exhibit suggests a positive sign of things to come for the visual arts in Jacksonville. The unique work on display foreshadows a new, contemporary direction for the local cultural scene, indicating we are on the cusp of something exciting and progressive.
The artists further extend the metaphor by creating works that react to and against the ominous "portents" we read everyday in the news. As with much contemporary art, they present very personal responses to the pervading insecurity many feel in today’s world. One could interpret the art itself as “portent”, anticipating outright dystopia or, at least, expressing some doubt about the status of the future.
