I’m reading The Gray Mask now. I like it better than The Abandoned Room.  It’s like an extended Sherlock Holmes story with all the pulp thriller trimmings and some surprising twists that really make it a fun read. A bit corny at times, but it doesn’t pretend to be high art. It’s very much like a good B movie. In fact, a movie based on the story was filmed in 1915. I’m not sure if the film is still available.

Other films based on the works of Charles Wadsworth Camp, according to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb), are Love Without Question (1920), based on The Abandoned Room;  Hate (1922), based on a short story; The Signal Tower (1924), based on an article (what?);  The Last Warning (1929), based on the novel House of Fear;  and confusingly, The House of Fear, based on the novel Backstage Phantom. As I continue to read all of Camp’s books, stories, & articles, I will also find out which films are available. More on that in the future.

I went to Evergreen Cemetery this morning, here in Jacksonville. A very nice & knowledgeable lady helped me locate the gravestone marking the the final resting place of Camp and his wife, Madeleine Barnett Camp. I took some pictures and also submitted a letter to the Cemetery Association suggesting that they add Mr. Camp to their list of notables. I have written previously about the Camps, the Barnetts, and the L’Engles.
