Dare Tabloid Reprint, November 1989

This is a reprint of the November 1989 Dare Tabloid, a vaguely monthly review and issues magazine about Jacksonville from the late 80s to the early 90s.

In it are contained reviews of old theater shows, the full panorama of the nightclub scene, local issues and politicians and satirical essays.

The November 1989 Issue was built around the Jacksonville Club Scene, Harry Reagans early warnings (and solutions) for suburban sprawl, and the response of the city to the first issue.

No wonder you are so good at this Stephen, you've been doing it for awhile!

DavidWilliams

Damn Stephen...you or Robert Smith?  :-\

Bill Ectric

It just gets better and better! You can bet I'll be cross-linking to my "Nothin' Ever Happens" blog tonight! Priceless.

Bill Ectric

Stop it, you're killing me with hilarity!

From page 18, at Bananas in Arlington, "The Colorado Mother Fucker that the bartender prepared for us was nothing less than an attempt on our lives . . . the crowd was terrifying, the service was frightening, and the dancing resembled some form of bizarre form of sex stomp . . . a rodentlike doorman . . ."

Oh, I can't take the laugh spasms!

Bill Ectric

Just to clarify, my hilarity is not from the info or pictures you posted just above my last post, which I didn't see until after I posted - it's from the Bananas review on page 18.

Bill Ectric

Two questions. Where is the subversive report about the grave-robbing? I see the picture but no report. And, where & how did the term obvious reasons originate?

"One day, we just feel it, Jacksonville will have a downtown nightlife."

Bill Ectric

Ahh, quite clear, now. I knew it had to be something along those lines.
