Dare Tabloid Reprint, February 1991

This is a reprint of the February 1991 Dare Tabloid, a vaguely monthly review and issues magazine about Jacksonville from the late 80s to the early 90s.

In it are contained reviews of old theater shows, the full panorama of the nightclub scene, local issues and politicians and satirical essays.

The February 1991 Issue was built around misadventures with an abnormally large group of neo nazis and skinheads which had formed in town, the ongoing controversy over the use of Tommy Hazouri's toupe as a mayoral campaign issue and how much livestock did it take before the area's finest hotels would cancel a reservation.

Baha, Crawdady's, Shades... good bit of reminiscing going on right now  :)

Cows! Michael Emerson! I'm getting such a kick out of these old articles!

Wow, this sends me back. Not that I was in town at the time: 1991 had me still overachieving at dear Lawtey Elementary School. But I had a radio and my grandparents' discarded day-old issues of the T-U. DJ Robert Goodman, Shades Nightclub, Baha, The Third Dimension and Tommy Hazouri ... ahhh, memories. Miss Garvin's symphony review was enchanting.

I was working at Regency Mall during this time range.Wow, East Side Mario's. I had completely forgotten that one. Did that go into the space that Houlihan's vacated? I do remember that it didn't last long. I worked at Dunderbaks  and remember going to get after work beers there.

How enlightening Stephen, guess I'll have to call all of my old girlfriends and tell them to cancel our reunion...  You know what we all used to sing about "B B" don't you??

"At night she gave homogenized
by day she gave pasteurized
Betsie the Heifer
The Queen of all the Cows!"

Stephen, if you are referring to the piece about the Jax Music Coalition, yes, I saw it.

I like how you don't show favoritism to any club or organization, even the supposedly "hip" ones, like the Einstein (and I loved the Einstein).

What I really liked was the DARE Arson Suspect Toteboard on Who Burned the Rave?  That was some good analytical forensics, there, I don't care who y'are.

And everything from Parapsychology to Cross-dressing... my God, is there any subject you didn't cover?

...hehehe...Betsy the heifer...
