another house lost to fire

I hope it wasn't arson. According to the news report it apparently had a new owner. Has anyone seen any work done on it. (besides the fire)

was walking my dog over in that area--must walked right by the place less than 10 minutes before the fire started.  it's a deitycursed shame.

I could see the flames from my office in the BofA Tower.  It looked pretty intense.  Glad no one was hurt.

We were walking on Main Street near 8th when the fire started, at about 6:30.  Truly incredible - within minutes the entire house was engulfed; imagine a house sized ball of flames.  By 7:00 it had burned to the ground.

That house was in complete shambles and was a stack of firewood waiting to be burned. That is not to say I am not saddened by a loss of a historic home. It was the house I pictured in ken kesey's sometimes a great notion.

I believe this house had been totally gutted so no plaster and such to slow down the flames.  No ceilings to stop the upward rush of the fire.  It really isn't being dry that makes it burn well, it is the resins. The resins you still smell when you cut a 150 year old piece of it.

As fast as this went up, it does seem like it had help. Hopefully, it wasn't arson as I hate to think of another Dusty out and about.  edit: Just read where the fire department officials do indeed suspect arson.

That house looked much worse than it really was.  It seemed to be pretty decent structurally and so was most likely very salvageable.  Having old houses on the commercial cooridor on 8th is a positive so this is a bad loss to the community.

I could see smoke from Philips highway around 630-ish.  I went to the University Club for dinner at 7, but could no longer see smoke.  Must have been quite the blaze.

It appears that an investigation is under way.  I spotted several police officers, fire fighters and city officials discussing and pointing next to the rubble this morning.

Strider's comments help explain why this house burned so quickly.  Based on what I saw, arson is most likely a factor.

And I agree that, although the house looked bad, it is a big loss both due to location and potential for restoration.

My office was located next door a few years ago and once, we were in the back office, next to that house and a car drove through the house.  The guy jumped out and went running down the alley with the police chasing him.  But it survived that and now this!  That poor house!

Amazing picture.

No FD in sight...very interesting.

QuoteWitnesses said it took only 30 minutes for the whole house to burn and that it was almost completely destroyed by the time firefighters arrived.

I wonder what took Station 2 so long to respond? They are right down the road. No. 9 is also close by. To catch a house fire like that on camera with no FD in sight is pretty rare.

JFRD showed up very quick. But the fire spread within minutes. Luckily this house had no direct neighbors. You see kind of in the back how the fire already spread a bit in the brush.
